The Twelve Steps to Sobriety

Narcotics Anonymous

1. We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Rush & the Twelve Steps

by Larry S. Rolirad, Unknown News

Dec. 15, 2003

"Rush and the 12 Steps"? No, it isn't an old Doo Wop or R & B band. It is Rush-the-addict Limbaugh, and the 12 barriers that he is now facing on his road to sobriety.

I have great empathy for anyone who is saddled with an addiction. But, it is hard to have empathy for someone who makes a living using hatred as his vehicle to riches. As it is written, those who "live by the sword, die by the sword". Rush Limbaugh has finally fallen on the sword of addiction.

Why Rush Limbaugh can't complete the Twelve Steps To Sobriety

Rush Limbaugh will find it impossible to complete the twelve steps to sobriety. He will find it especially impossible to admit that he committed crimes on his journey through addiction. And this is just step number one. Rush has never acknowledged that using his maid to buy over $200,000 worth of drugs was a crime. Rush never will, even if he is indicted, convicted, and imprisoned.

Rush will also find it especially impossible to complete Step 8, which says, "We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all."

Rush will find it impossible to actually make amends to those he has harmed, as dictated in Step 9. Limbaugh could never apologize to the millions of people he has harmed because of his sociopathic behavior while hiding behind his microphone. He has savagely and repeatedly attacked scores of prominent people, and even the homeless.

Rush's favorite targets during the past ten years have been the Clinton family. Rush even said the following about Roger Clinton on his radio show on January 23, 1994:
"Some folks believe I shouldn't go after the President's brother. They say that is unfair. Out of bounds. Well, you know, Roger Clinton isn't just the President's brother. He is a man who has by his own admission abused drugs. I admire him for the admission — something his brother could take a lesson from. But the fact remains, you people, he has not shied away from the public limelight. He has used his brother's position to get more attention that should be bestowed up someone like Mr. Clinton. So, I have the right to comment on his drug abuse. It is something that is more than political with me. I abhor the use and abuse of drugs!"
This quote is interesting because while Rush was talking to his radio audience he was probably higher than a kite on illegal painkillers. The word 'hypocrite' comes to mind.

Rush even stooped so low as to compare a very vulnerable and beautiful adolescent girl to a dog. That girl was Chelsea Clinton. On his now extinct television show, Limbaugh showed a picture of Chelsea followed by a picture of a dog. Rush's television audience gave him a thunderous applause when he ruthlessly attacked that innocent eleven year old girl. That audience reaction reveals what kind of people Rush Limbaugh fans are.

Limbaugh has also savagely attacked Senator Edward Kennedy for Ted's problems with alcohol. But remember that Senator Kennedy's drug of choice was alcohol, a LEGAL drug, while Rush's drugs of choice were illegally obtained. Rush Limbaugh allegedly purchased more than $200,000.00 worth of ILLEGAL drugs while he was on the air with a monkey firmly on his back. Someone needs to tell Rush Limbaugh that using his maid to purchase over $200,000.00 worth of drugs is a crime.

Rush Limbaugh's massive ego and his inability to feel compassion for others will prevent him from sincerely apologizing to anyone. The above illustrates just three of the steps Rush will have to hurdle. There are nine others that he will also find impossible to embrace and perform.

In the first column on this page are the steps Limbaugh will find impossible to complete because Rush's actions are that of a sociopath who believes that his ego is his 'god'.

And finally, let's not forget other inconstancies in Rush's position on drugs through the years. Rush, the master of the microphone, is also a master of deception. Enjoy the little Rush gems in the third column on this page, where he blasts the use of drugs and drug users even though he has been a long time addict.

The quotes speak for themselves and they demonstrate that consequences for using illegal drugs has two sets of rules — one for a typical addict, and another for Rush Limbaugh.

Rush's actions trip over his words

"There's nothing good about drug use. We know it. It destroys individuals. It destroys families. Drug use destroys societies. Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up."
  —Rush Limbaugh Show,
1996

"By legalizing drugs, all you're going to do is define further deviancy downward. We have a duty to pass on values to our descendants, values that will maintain the standards of behavior and ensure the survivability of the American way of life. And drugs are no different. You end up destroying more than yourself."
  —Rush Limbaugh's Playboy Interview,
December 1993

"The problem with legalizing drugs is it's another abhorrent example of human behavior that we've suddenly decided hey we can't handle it, we've given up."
  —Rush Limbaugh Show,
1999

"We're going to let you destroy your life. We're going to make it easy and then all of us who accept the responsibilities of life and don't destroy our lives on drugs, we'll pay for whatever messes you get into."
  —Rush Limbaugh Show,
1993

"I'm appalled at people who simply want to look at all this abhorrent behavior and say people are going to do drugs anyway let's legalize it. It's a dumb idea. It's a rotten idea and those who are for it are purely 100 percent selfish."
  —Rush Limbaugh Show,
December 9, 1993

"What this says to me is that too many whites are getting away with drug use. Too many whites are getting away with drug sales. Too many whites are getting away with trafficking in this stuff. The answer to this disparity is not to start letting people out of jail because we're not putting others in jail who are breaking the law. The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too."
  —Rush Limbaugh Show,
October 5, 1995

"If (Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders) wants to legalize drugs, send the people who want to do drugs to London and Zurich, and let's be rid of them."
  —Rush Limbaugh Show,
December 9, 1993
