Welcome
to Cherry Lane Digital
If you're looking for Jim
Griffin of Los Angeles, the guy who runs Cherry Lane Digital
LLC and Evolab LLC, you've come to the right place. There are other Jim
Griffins, especially near Kenmare in Southwestern Ireland, and
even in Hollywood (another Jim Griffin is an agent at William
Morris Agency, for example).
My interests are many, but
focus on the digital delivery of art, especially music,
movies, books and what some call intellectual property.
This web site is divided into
eleven sections,
each easily accessible from the menu above.
You can read about the Pho
brunches and the Pho mailing list by
clicking on the Pho section on the menu above. Or go to
co-founder John Parres' Pholist
site.

I am having trouble keeping
this updated, as I am travelling so very much thoughout

am mostly in Finland during April.

Good Gigs:
Micafocus
series on Music Navigator (Vienna, Austria)
On Friday 21 March I gave a
talk at Bernhard Guenther's EU-sponsored Mica event on the
Music Navigator. It was a fun presentation to give, a
stimulating event and the first Vienna Pho gathering.
___________
University
of California at Irvine Business School (Irvine, CA)
On Tuesday 11 February I gave a
talk at the business school at UCI. It was fun, a good crowd,
and I hope to return to UCI more often.

Talking
Turkey 1
On this year's Groundhog Day,
Sunday 2 February 2003, we had the first of what we hope will
be many turkey fries and discussions about the role of
compulsory payments in monetizing music, movies and creative
endeavors in a digital age.
___________
Now with
Bill Moyer
On Friday 17 January 2003 I was
included in a piece on libraries and copyright on Bill Moyer's

Future of
Music Conference
On Monday 6
January 2003 I moderated a panel at FOMC
that turned out well, featuring David Benjamin (SVP Piracy
Universal Music), Jim Cooperman (SVP Biz BMG), Sandy Pearlman
(Creative VP Multicasttech), Peter Jenner (UK manager). It was
a knife fight at times, others it was prosaic. Always it was a
fascinating clash of ideas, old and new.

Long Bets
I recently made a Long Bet with
Gordon Bell, a man I very much admire. Abraham Lincoln said it
best: If two people in the room think the same thing, we don't
need one of them. Read more about our bet on the future
of interactive video services at Long Bets: http://www.longbets.org/bet/3
___________
Spot Music
Conference
On 11 May 2002 I was in Denmark
for the Spot Music Festival and had a terrific time. Good
people, a great time, and terrific dialogue.
