music meme [Feb. 17th, 2004|10:55 pm]
[Current Music |sigur ros - untitled]

stolen from the latest addition to my friend's list, [info]babycola...

it's the the mp3 music meme:

Step 1: Open your MP3 player.
Step 2: Put all of your music on random.
Step 3: Write down the first 20 songs it plays, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 4: Profit from seeing how lovely and diverse your friend's tastes are (hopefully)

1. Siouxsie And The Banshees - Peek-A-Boo (3:09)
2. Gimmik - le Ciel (5:20)
3. Sufjan Stevens - Detroit, Lift Up Your Weary Heat!... (3:37)
4. Heiko Voss - I Think About You (Geiger Mix) (5:01)
5. The Shins - Kissing The Lipless (3:18)
6. Jaylib - React ft. Quasimoto (2:45)
7. Vangelis - state of independance (4:59)
8. Benny Benassi - Inside of me (3:52)
9. Gareth Mitchell - Komposition (5:20)
10. Liars - Hold And It Will Happen Anyway (4:50)
11. ADC - Welcome To The Accutrac 4000 (2:05)
12. Devo - Freedom of Choice (3:26)
13. Salvador Group - The Moon is Hig (4:04)
14. eddie flashin' fowlkes - stray dog (5:25)
15. Soul Position - Share this (5:38)
16. Unrest - Disko Magic (2:41)
17. herbie hancock - 12 the essence (dj krush remix) (5:48)
18. Woven Hand - White Bird (4:59)
19. KLF - Chill Out Remixed Track 03 (2:30)
20. Goldfrapp - Twist (Dimitri Tikovoi Remix) (6:30)

out of these 20 songs, I'd probably say I'm familiar with only about 8 of them... which speaks volumes about my mp3 collection & listening habits.

if you use WinAmp, it's really easy to make this list. Just load all the mp3s, open up the Playlist Editor, click "Misc", then "Sort", then "Randomize", then "Misc" again, and finally "Generate HTML Playlist"... from there it's just a copy and paste!

[Current Music |squarepusher - ultravision]

  • i want all these dvds. the protein store rocks too.

  • Fog of War was cool, but I don't recommend watching it late at night after a large meal.

  • this article talks about "celestial bling." I think I've found the title of my first album.

  • I'm looking for software that will allow me to take a dvd and rip it to avi or mpeg (with various quality settings). Can anyone hook me up with such a thing?

buzzes for today [Feb. 13th, 2004|12:24 pm]
[Current Music |DJ Danger Mouse - My 1st Song]

  • what do you get when you mix:

    + ?

    answer = the Grey Album:

Grab the mp3s while they're hot.

I thought it was going to be cheesy, but they work together well thanks to Danger Mouse's amazing sampling and sequencing skillz.

  • Seattle Peoples... I highly recommend catching this show tonight:

THE NOTWIST, THEMSELVES, PLAN B (Chop Suey) Although Data Breaker scribe Dave Segal gave headliner the Notwist a mixed review (see page 49), I highly recommend hitting this show for its openers. Themselves are part of the underground hiphop crew Anticon, and the group pairs vocalist Doseone with producer Jel for some truly fucked-up shit (their No Music of Aff's is psychedelic hiphop at some of its most interesting). Plan B also give hiphop a spin, mixing ambient laptop beats, live breakdancing, organic instrumentation, and a few other surprises into the mix. JENNIFER MAERZ

    Stranger review here.

    update: it's totally sold-out :( :(

[Current Music |Boards of Canada - Red Moss]

i've got all my Boards of Canada mp3s playing on random today. I heard a rumor there'll be a new album this year... I can't wait.

There's also an effort to get them to come to Seattle for the Decibal Festival. For this, I can only pray.

also, a seattle times review of the 1984 play. looks cool.

Primer [Jan. 30th, 2004|12:05 pm]
One of my good friends from college and his pals in Dallas picked up the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival this week. News stories all over the place talking about the film and my friend even got his own frickin' IMDB page with photos! (Here's us at our school's film festival back in 2000)

My jaw went through the floor when I heard the news. They made this thing with only $7,000 bucks, using amateur actors, parents' living rooms as sets, and lots of hard work obviously.

I'm beside-myself-happy for him and his mates and I can't wait to see the movie which I think will hit theaters this summer. You can check out the trailer here

converge dammit! [Jan. 30th, 2004|11:35 am]
[Current Music |I-f - Mixed up in the Hague 2]

if you live anywhere near Seattle and you like electronic dance music, I implore you to attend Convergence tomorrow night.

Monolake was originally the headliner, but dropped out due to a bad case of the SARS. Luckily however, Sutekh has stepped in as a worthy replacement. I'm most excited to see Lusine.

the line-up features some of seattle's top talent for both music and visuals and the show is benefiting the upcoming seattle electronic music festival coming up in September.

Tickets are $13.31 and available online here ($15 at the door). Here's the nwtekno thread if you still need convincing. be there!

I SMELL A LAWSUIT [Jan. 26th, 2004|04:06 pm]
[Current Mood |FURIOUS]
[Current Music |liars - broken which]

There's been some slanderous invective about me circulating on the internet lately. I'd like to clear up the lies and misconceptions right here and right now.

There is an evil computer hardware company that has stolen my identity... here is their evil corporate logo:

some particularly nasty excerpts from this article:

"Ario began quietly shipping controller boards last year and has already nabbed design wins with eight OEMs, including two tier-one companies. "We shipped thousands of boards in the last quarter alone,” said Eric Herzog, vice president of marketing and business development for Ario.

Ario hopes to ease OEM product testing by keeping much of its hardware and software design common across the family of boards. “OEMs can qualify the first board, and subsequent boards can be handled by just qualifying the host interface. The firmware is all the same,” said Herzog.

Later this year, Ario will unveil versions of the board supporting the new 4-Gbit Fibre Channel and serial-attached SCSI (SAS) interfaces."

for the record, I AM NOT:

  • A DATA NETWORKING COMPANY IN SAN JOSE, CA

  • QUIETLY SHIPPING ANYTHING BESIDES SOME DOPE MIX CDS TO FRIENDS

  • EASING INTO OEM PRODUCT TESTING AT ALL

  • UNVEILING A NEW VERSION OF A SCSI INTERFACE NEXT YEAR, BUT I AM UNVEILING MY PLAN FOR WORLD DOMINATION

  • RECEIVING $17.2 MILLION IN VC MONEY, IT'S MORE LIKE $17.2 BILLION
don't believe the lies of Ario Data Networks!

library musings [Jan. 18th, 2004|05:39 pm]
sitting in Suzzallo library...

reading articles
soaking up the free wireless internet
underlining passages
taking notes in the wired spiral
the loud echo of people moving their heavy wooden chairs against the hard tiled floor
the ding of the elevator
the whispers of the table next door
the clickity clack of typing

ah, the joys of being a student again.
