Imagine this. It's a hypothetical situation only, because as we all know in the 21st century this would never happen.
The phone rings, about 8 pm. Let's say you're a female employee at a popular game store in Michigan.
'Good evening, EB Games, your MadCatz headquarters. This is Erika, how may I help you?'
'Yeah... is any of the guys there?'
Well, there's several guys who work at the store. They're probably pretty good friends with them. 'Which one are you looking for?'
'Oh... just one of the guys.'
'Uh... which one...'
'Any of 'em, really. I have a technical question, and I'd like to ask one of the guys.' Emphasis mine.
Excuse me, sir? Did you just ask to speak to a male because you think that the female you're talking to on the phone can't field a technical question about a game system?
'Uhh... Bleu? Guy on the phone, wants to talk to "one of the guys" about a "problem".'
FUCK YOU IN THE EAR, ASSHOLE. I PROBABLY KNOW MORE ABOUT IT THAN YOU DO.
He gives me a pointed look. 'Yeah, sure.'
Fuck you in the ear if you have an old PS2 and it's giving out. They do that. They get a lot of use, and abuse. It's not my fault you didn't keep care of it and clean it.
So. How's my boss, Bleu, the Batman, the 6' some ex-Navy black man who's about the coolest guy in the world and got me this job handle it?
'Mmhmm.... and it's ... yeah, they get old and they do that ... did you purchase it here? ... Have you cleaned it out? ... Yeah, you're going to want to get ahold of Sony on that. Mmhmm ... Not a problem sir, but just so you know, the woman you were speaking to is our resident Sony expert, and she'd have told you the same I did... Not a problem sir, you have a good evening.'
*grinning kitty*
He apologized to Bleu for me. The two people waiting at the counter (quite willingly patient, bless them) were quite amused by the caller's audacity.
The suggestion was made that perhaps next time I should say 'Sorry, I'm the only one here at the time. I believe one of the gentleman will be around tomorrow morning, if you'd like to wait until then.' Bleu agreed, so did the customers.
We all had a good laugh at that. I still wanted to choke the guy, or stomp on the phone, for his audacity.
But, of course ... this is all hypothetical.
