 | | Jeff Gordon celebrates his second Winston Cup Championship at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. |
Driven
What drives Jeff Gordon? Is it the money? Is it the fame? Or is it just the desire to win? Maybe it's all of that and more. One thing's for sure, the torch has definitely been passed from Petty to Earnhardt to Gordon. More than just a pretty face, Jeff Gordon has accomplished more in a racecar before age 30 than all but a few drivers have achieved in their careers. The first driver to reach $50 million in earnings, Gordon has won four Winston Cup titles and two Daytona 500s, emerging as an icon for a new generation of NASCAR fans. No driver has started his career with such a splash. At 23, Gordon won the inaugural Brickyard 400. At 25, he became the youngest winner of the Daytona 500, a race in which he was the youngest participant by two years. His story will be profiled on Monday at 8 and 11 p.m. ET on ESPN Classic.

Classic Drive Thru:
1982 Sugar Bowl - Pittsburgh vs. Georgia Fri., 9 p.m. ET One of the most dramatic finishes in Pitt football history gave Pitt the victory over Georgia. Pitt trailed 20-17 with 42 seconds remaining. It faced a fourth-and-5 at the Bulldog 33. Coach Jackie Sherrill disdained the potential 50-yard field goal attempt. Dan Marino wanted to throw a short pass to a running back to get the first down, but a Georgia blitz left tight end John Brown in single coverage down the middle. Marino was right on target for the touchdown, his third of the day. The Panther defense limited Herschel Walker to 84 yards on 25 carries.
