Christopher Stricklin ejects from the USAF Thunderbirds number six aircraft less than a second before it impacted the ground at an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, Sept. 14. Stricklin, who was not injured, ejected after both guiding the jet away from the crowd of more than 60,000 people and ensuring he couldn't save the aircraft. This was only the second crash since the Air Force began using F-16 Falcons for its demonstration team in 1982. The ACES II ejection seat performed flawlessly.
The fallacy about patents
CNET News.com: The fallacy about patents
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently revealed its list of the top 10 patent holders in 2003. But I'd like to suggest that the numbers themselves are irrelevant.
It would be naive for any company (or for that matter, any country) to assume that amassing patents for patents' sake is a meaningful measure of success. Invention only matters when it positively transforms an institution, a business, a society or our lives. Rather than numbers, it's the application of invention--coupled with deep insight, experience and even intuition--that results in genuine innovation.
Nick goes on to make some good points, definitely worth a read.

Halo sequel delayed until autumn
BBC NEWS: Halo sequel delayed until autumn
Fans of the sci-fi shooter Halo will have to wait until later this year for the sequel to the best-selling game.
Many had hoped Halo 2 would be out by spring, but developers Bungie have confirmed that it will not be ready until the autumn.
"Now we're confident. Halo 2 will ship in fall, 2004. Please make a note of it," the company said on its website.
