(for those of you who don't know, my dad was a rocket engineer, worked for Rockwell from the early days of the space program until the development of the Space Shuttle. He retired not too long before the first Space Shuttle launch. To the end of his life, he loved space and the stars. This would have meant so very much to him.)

The interesting thing about getting my nose pierced is that I think I "get it" now about getting pierced. That it's not about being different or about doing something unusual. It's a very personal experience, in that what you get out of it goes beyond just having a pretty piece of jewelry in your nose and it's something you can't explain to anyone who hasn't experienced it.

I really, really like it. And Effysis, you guys are RIGHT about the endorphin rush.

I'm getting that itch to do Something Else with my website again, I'm bored with MT and I don't really use it anyway (I use this here place for journaling). So... what should I do?

Any suggestions?

WtF is it men find so sexy about a nose pierce?

Ever since I got this one I've had guys smiling and saying hello to me right and left. It's amusing and cute (and believe me I'm NOT complaining) but I'm admittedly completely baffled. I wouldn't have had any clue why except that several of my male friends have raved to me about how cute it is and that it is sexy.

All my life I've just never been one of those women guys *notice* and now all of a sudden they are saying hi to me all over the place. Anyone got any insight?

1 very pretty little thingie (ring? miniature jewelry?) box handmade by my effysis magpie_menace
one hilarious birthday card from Karina (who also bought me foodages much of the weekend)
1 copy of a fun adventure game I've been DYING to play from the aforementioned effysis
1 positively absolutely GORGEOUS crosstitched Coyote from the aforementioned effysis (she spoils me)
2 new ear pierces and a nose pierce (performed by the dashing bcarruth). I now have more total pierces than B's entire family put together (total of nine ear pierces and one nose pierce).

Life is good.

So I'm farting around with my weblogs, which I mainly use to make sure nobody is leeching my images without my permission. I have an Access database all set up with SQL queries and such to sort through my logs looking for various types of things (excessive bot activity, hits to images with offsite referrers, etc). I pulled my data this afternoon and imported it into my database. Before I could start sorting my log data, Little Bit tromped merrily across my keyboard and somehow managed to NOT ONLY change the security level on the database (thereby necessitating I close and restart the app), she somehow assigned it a password. So now I can't get into the goddamn database.

ARGH. Anyone have any thoughts on what the hell sort of password a cat might choose?

Well, they're not great pictures, and there is only four of them. I'm too lazy to futz with the scanner because it's connected to B's computer, which is off right now and takes forever and six weeks to boot, and is so loaded down with crap that blinks, flashes, pops etc that it's a major annoyance so y'all will have to settle for quickie digital cam shots.

These will all pop in a new window, just close it when you're done.

Assignment: Choose any three objects to create a composition, done in tonal shading.

Assignment: Concave and convex shapes using tonal and linear shading. Subject was eggshells, top set was done in linear shading. Bottom set done with tonal shading.

Two apples and a pear half done in charcoal, tonal shading. Not my best effort.

Same two apples and pear half, done in pencils with tonal shading. Much better than the charcoals IMO.

That is really a must-read. This person deserves to have flowers rained on them from all directions, among shouts of "huzzah" and "bravissimo". LOL.

This woman goes into a funeral home to make arrangements for her husband's funeral. She tells the director that she wants her husband to be buried in a dark blue suit.

He asks, "Wouldn't it just be easier to bury him in the black suit that he's wearing?" But she insists that it must be blue suit and gives him a blank check to buy one.

When she comes back for the wake, she sees her husband in the coffin and he is wearing a beautiful blue suit. She tells the director how much she loves the suit and asks how much it cost.

He says, "Actually, it didn't cost anything. The funniest thing happened. As soon as you left, another corpse was brought in, this one wearing a blue suit. I noticed that they were about the same size, and asked the other widow if she would mind if her husband were buried in a black suit. She said that was fine with her. So, I just switched the heads."
