even if it's broke ..
Guardian Unlimited Books | By genre | Ursula Le Guin Q&A;

There is an old American saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The novel extends that a bit - "Even if it's broke, if you don't know how to fix it, don't."
The quote is coming straight out of an interview with Ursula K. Le Guin, who wrote one of my all time favorite novels, The Lathe of Heaven, which also inspired the Alpha Flight versus X-men cross-over; one of my most favorite X-men stories ever - written by Chris Claremon and drawn by Paul Smith.

chinese wall hoax
Chinese wall not visible from the moon.
Well, down the drain goes one of the most-cherished legends of China's most representative symbol.

silence
Although I have never been there; to all those who passed away in Madrid and to their family and friends, hope you find peace in your heart. RIP.

dark energy
The end of everything. The article discusses how dark energy - you catch my attention right there - will influence how the universe will end. I just don't understand why every possible scenario of the end of everything has to be Big .. the Big Chill, the Big Rip, the Big Split, the Big Crunch. Isn't it possible that the universe ends in a small way, on a whimper?

US losing its edge?
IHT: Thomas L. Friedman: Innovation is the secret of Americas sauce. Friedman writes how innovation is what catapulted the US to the leading edge. Now with increasingly higher barriers to entry, I wonder will the US be able to keep this edge. It reminds me of the professor from Italy who refused invitations to speak at NYU amongst others, because people who enter the US with a visum now have to have their fingerprints taken and a photograph. To what degree is innovation/culture in the US global?

listening to ..

The Shins - Saint Simon

After all these implements and text designed by intellects
so vexed to find evidently there's just so much that hides
And though the saints of us divine in ancient feeding lines
their sentiment is just as hard to pluck from the vine

I'm trying hard not to pretend
allow myself no mock defense
step into the night

Since I dont have the time nor mind to figure out
The nursery rhymes that helped us out and make a sense of our lives
The cruel uneventful state of apathy releases me
I value them but I won't cry if the time was wiped out

I'm trying hard not to give in
Battened down to fair the wind
rid my head of this pretense
allow myself no mock defense
step into the night...

Mercy's eyes are blue
when she places them in front of you
nothing holds a roman candle to
the solemn warmth you feel inside

there's no measuring of it
as nothing else is love

I'll try hard not to give in
Battened down to fair the wind
Read my head, at least pretend
Allow myslef no mock defense
Step into the night...

Mercy's eyes are blue
When she places them in front of you
nothing really holds a candle to
the solemn warmth you feel inside of you
