Sweaty palms is a condition referred to as Palmar Hyperhidrosis. This medical condition is caused by hyperactive sympathetic nervous activity over sweat glands of the hands. Medical treatment typically consists of prescription medication, which only reduces sweating temporarily, and is not normally effective in severe cases of this condition. The only effective treatment for patients with severe palmar hyperhidrosis is a surgical procedure called thoracoscopic sympathectomy. This procedure can now be performed safely as an outpatient, same day basis. In the past, physicians have attempted to cure or treat hyperhidrosis with a wide range of medical treatments. These treatments have included products such as Drysol® Drionics® or Robinul® that can reduce sweating in mild cases of hyperhidrosis. Another treatment has been injection of Botox® in the palms, a potent botulinus toxin, that may stop sweating but its effect lasts only for several months and injection must be repeated. He earned his medical degree from University of California, Los Angeles in 1984, and completed his internship and residency in surgery at the Harbor - UCLA Medical Center. His two-year fellowship in cardio vascular and thoracic surgery was completed at Vancouver, BC, Canada.
