March 17, 2004 - The Ed Herman for Congress team gathered today to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and march in the parade.  About two dozen of Ed’s supporters met on Euclid Avenue before the parade.  State Representative Tom Patton (Berea-Strongsville) was also there to march in the parade.

“Cleveland is a city greatly enriched by the diverse heritages of its people, including the Irish,” said Ed Herman.  “My mother’s maiden name and my middle name is Fitzpatrick.  The Fitzpatrick’s came to Cleveland after leaving their native Ireland. They came
to this county seeking a better life.  In America they found a place be free and prosper.  The Fitzpatrick’s are Americans now, but we have not forgotten the sacrifices of our ancestors who made the move to America.

“What made America a great home for the Irish still makes America a great home for newer immigrants: freedom to worship God as they choose or not at all, freedom to live and think as their conscience dictates, and freedom to prosper and

make good lives for themselves and their children.  As the next congressman for West and South Sides, I promise to work hard to uphold these freedoms.”

A gentle snowfall gave today’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade a fairytale feel.  After the parade, the team went to Pickwick and Frolick to enjoy some refreshments and hear our friend and fellow Irish-American Pat Shepard sing. After that, the team went to
Westlake and enjoyed Judi Joyce Votypka’s world famous corned beef dinner.
