How to Tell if the RIAA Wants You "The Electronic Frontier Foundation has created a site where users can plug in their file-sharing user names. That name is checked against the list of those subpoenas filed in the Washington, D.C., district court." === It's a good thing I'm out of that scene. Yo I don't hang around with those guys any more. |

so whatever happened to Goldfinger? they were a pretty good band. I always loved bands who could make me laugh as much as they did on their self-titled album.

Threat rating: Medium. Your total lack of decent family values makes you dangerous, but we can count on some right wing nutter blowing you up if you become too high profile. What threat to the Bush administration are you? |

We had a great visit to Morganton, but it could have been longer. We left Cary around 9am and arrived in Morganton around 12:30. We went straight to the hospital since the plan was to admit Robin around 6 or 7am to supposedly induce labor. When we got there they had broken her water about an hour earlier, and she was having some pretty bad contractions. For the next couple of hours the contractions continued, but not much progress was made in terms of dilation. frog and I left around 2pm to get some lunch, and when we came back closer to 3pm, things were getting much more exciting. The doctor had given her the epidural, which was apparently what her body was waiting for. When we got back she was up to 6cm (was at 3.5cm before lunch). Within an hour the nurses were in with her and she had began pushing. Within another half hour the doctor was in with her, and at 4:58pm Kayla Malynn Stiles was born. I was lucky enough to be standing outside the door to hear everyone's reactions (my Mom and Robin's mother-in-law were in with her), and I heard Kayla's first cries. She was 8 lbs. 8 oz., 20" long. Yeah, big baby. On a side note, Robin was an 8 lb. 1 oz. baby, and I was 8 lb. 14 oz. Yeah, my Mom knows what big babies are like. We spent the rest of the evening with the proud parents and new baby. There was quite a crowd there, but we did get to hold Kayla and spend time with everyone before we left to get dinner and sleep. Needless to say, Robin was pretty exhausted, as was Kayla, and I'm sure Jason was too. The next morning my Mom roped Emily and I into helping replace the carpet in Robin & Jason's bedroom. They have a dog that has had some bladder issues, and the carpet had a few stains. Mom couldn't stand the thought of her grandbaby crawling around on that carpet. Yeah, that's sweet, but I didn't plan on doing manual labor, and neither did Emily. We got the carpet torn out and replaced with new stuff in a few hours. We had been to the hospital once in the morning, but Kayla was gone for testing. So after we finished the carpet, it was back to the hospital. We spent a couple hours with the now-well-rested mom and baby. Kayla is one of the calmest, most alert newborns I've ever seen. Of course, I haven't been around very many newborns. I had never even really held one before Kayla. She's so awesome. The time flew by. We went to get an early dinner, and went home so Emily and I could pack our things. We moved the furniture back into Robin and Jason's room (we hadn't finished that part earlier, just the carpet). Then, we were off. We made a brief stop at my cousin's house to see their new baby boy, who had been born 5 weeks earlier. Then, it was back to the hospital to say our goodbyes to Robin and Kayla and the rest of the family (Jason, Mom, Mamaw), and we were off. We got back to Cary around midnight or a little afterwards. What a trip. I regret that we couldn't stay to see Robin and Kayla come home from the hospital, but I'm sure we'll be back to visit very soon. Emily and I are both very excited about having a new niece. :-) |

This was emailed to me by a friend... Each year the Washington Post's Style Invitational asks readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting or changing only one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are the 2002 winners: 1. INTAXICATION: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with. 2. REINTARNATION: Coming back to life as a hillbilly. 3. FOREPLOY: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid. 4. GIRAFFITI: Vandalism painted very, very high. 5. SARCHASM: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it. 6. INOCULATTE: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late. 7. OSTEOPORNOSIS: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.) 8. KARMAGEDDON: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer. 9. GLIBIDO: All talk and no action. 10. DOPELER EFFECT: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly. And, the winner of the Washington Post's Style Invitational: 11. IGNORANUS: A person who's both stupid and an asshole. |

It's a shame I don't have more time for video games, Star Wars Galaxies looks like fun. I could waste a lot of time there, but thankfully I don't have a computer even close to being able to run the game. From the sound of it, I expect it will be a hit. I really should worry about finishing Metroid Prime before I drool over anything else.

Thanks to a coupon mailer, we discovered a nearby Irish pub tonight (Connolly's). It was good, good enough that I'm sure we'll be back. It's a small place, good atmosphere, and good food. No bangers and mash on the menu, though, which is a damn shame. That was my favorite thing about McCann's, which is unfortunately too far away from where we live now. Hulk was damn good. Much better than I expected from the previews, but after reading reviews on triangle.com and hearing elgorgo's take, we were encouraged enough to give it a shot. We don't do this enough. Partially because it takes money, partially because it takes time... anyway, I was glad to get out tonight and have some fun with Emily. |

I'm back, safe and sound, you may sleep now. The trip was uneventful, the flights however were almost eventful. I almost missed my flight out of Raleigh due to the fucked up inadequate parking situation at RDU. I missed my first flight out of Valdosta due to it being against my nature to catch 6am flights, and then I proceeded to almost miss the two flights I ended up taking home. The weather in GA was shitty, it was 90 degrees F and about 95% humidity. Having said all that, the trip wasn't really that bad. The weekend could be uneventful and relaxing, which would be fine with me. Or, I could get a call about the arrival of our new niece at some point, in which case we'll be in a car on our way to Morganton. I still haven't had a chance to listen to the new 2SJ and Tricky albums completely yet, although I realize that I have heard several of the J's songs the last time I saw them in Raleigh. Their self-proclaimed "second last show ever in Raleigh" is 7/12, and frog and I have tickets. Good night! ( oh hell, everybody else is doing it ) |

Tomorrow I head out of town for a fun-filled 1 day, 2 night working vacation to exciting Quitman, GA. This is my first trip to the job site without either of my bosses. I'm all grown up now. I've said it before, but work is work. I have good days, bad days, but all in all I seem to be getting a little better at what I do and the people I work with seem to respect me. Plus they pay me. So yeah, I have the next two nights to look forward to being bored and alone in Georgia, since none of my colleagues will be there, and neither will frog or Nina. Life at home is good, though. I just installed a light fixture and in the process discovered a nice 4"x10" hole in the kitchen wall that the previous owners felt was necessary when they hung the ugly light fixture we replaced. I guess it really never does end. And I thought all I would have to do is mow the grass and reap the benefits of homeownership. Got the new 2 Skinnee J's and Tricky albums today, but I haven’t' listened to either fully. The mp3s will be coming with me tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to that. Well, that and the packet of Delta brand snack mix I'll get to enjoy during the flight. |
