hey kids!

The biotechnology industry is meeting in San Francisco from June 6-9th, to "celebrate the benefits of biotech to health, agriculture, the economy and the environment." BIO 2004 is being met with a counter-convergence called Reclaim the Commons. On 6/8, in conjunction with the start of the G8 summit in Georgia, Reclaim the Commons plans to shut down the BIO convention in a demonstration of opposition to corporate rule.

For about the past week Indymedia has had random spots in the city so San Franciscans can upload their pictures/video/sound/text. Visit indybay Indybay.org
...also, if you don't know about indie media, read their mission, and find the one in your city. (i'll write about it when it is not 2am, and when i don't have to be up in 4 hours.)

for the past month or so there has been tons of activism ending in dance parties, food fights and the link. yeah yeah yeah. I've made a little montage: YAY! MOVIE TIME!

in other news, after the biotech convention is shut down tomorrow... come to this:

My history with the macs...
02:26pm 02/06/2004

music: Whither Vulcan-Remy Zero-Villa Elaine

I was born with macs in the house. In 1990, I was 7, my brother was 16 and studying graphic arts at an arts magnet. His teacher sold him this computer.

My second computer came in 1994, It was a Macintosh Performa 656TV.
It had a TV tuner!
I would connect my brothers illegal cable scrambler to it, freeze frames from SpiceTV (porno! that had no penetration, all i ever wanted to see was penis, and alas the penetration came when the HotNetwork was introduced), i would print them out and sell them at school.

My third computer came in 1996, it was a powerbook 190.

My fourth was a powerbook g3, wall street. A friend at Time Magazine got it for me for about $1,200.
This computer would introduce me to doing sneaky things, napster, programming, and porn sites. I broke it 2 years later, when we tried to fix it, I realized there was no serial number... the friend at time had stole it from Time.

In June 2001, as my graduation/birthday/moving away gift, I got this. A 400 mhz powerbook g4. The first thing I did was get a job and save up enough money to buy a gig of RAM. This computer would continue to revolutionize the way I looked at computers... this computer brought me the money.

In true Jorge fashion, I ended up breaking the last powerbook... so I got this one fall 2003. It is my current lover, the more people I meet, the more I like my computer. It's a 1ghz g4 with a gig of RAM.

other shit: 160firewire HD, i've gone through a first generation 10gig ipod, a 2nd generation 15 &20 gig ipod, and currently a 3rd generation 40 gig ipod. ... i fucking break everything. i should start taking care of my shit though. i can't afford shit, but i would find loopholes in comp usa's insurance... and thats how i kept on getting shit. (that, or i would create receipts) ...and CompUSA finally got around to it and took away the insurance.. I can only do it one more time.

music: Belong-Remy Zero-The Golden Hum
There you were with your red, pouty lips. Gorgeous. Your friend with her long flowing blonde hair. Blasting your thumping system at noon on a Monday. You knew we were all looking at you two in your white, flawless Hummer. You were talking on your phone, laughing as you almost knocked over the messenger as you flew around the corner from Montgomery onto Sacramento. You showed him.

As you both looked around at us peons running around on this busy Monday, throwing your snide I-think-being-head-cheerleader-five-years-ago-still-makes-me-cool looks around, we all looked to you for some guidance as to how we too could actually be *such cunts* without speaking.

You almost killed the 90 year old Asian man as you pulled into the parking garage on Sacramento. We were all shocked at your actions, hoping that someday, a couple of bitches like yourselves would get what was coming.

I guess you were going a little too fast to see the “Maximum Height 7’” sign. Maybe you should have rethought those extra large tires. But, I will say that nothing, and I mean NOTHING in this world sounds as good as the roof of a Hummer being crushed by a huge, concrete overhang.

I'm dressed all in blue

mood: i see the world in green and blue

Today, I quit the job I use to love.
Meanwhile, I've probably already overdrawn for the 3 times in less that 3 weeks.

I quit abruptly, I wrote a letter this morning and that was that.

I said what I needed to say in a letter.
I asked my associate director to step outside with me.
Told her it was becoming increasingly difficult to walk in to an office with so much hostility.
the hostility management had created.
my letter was intense, she didn't come back to the office for a while.
...but really, I can't concentrate in there. I can't fuction.
so the poor get poorer, but I keep my sanity.
fuck. i'm hungry!

Life: Life has been treating me well.
Couch Surfing: I was a little depressed/worried/sad/nervous about not having a place to live.
It has been about a month and half now--and like everything I've worried about before-- it turns out it was unnesasarry. I've been staying in the lower haight.
I just got back from the 24-hour safeway on Church and Market. Karla rode on my handle bars, and greg his skateboard. The road bikes and the muni track lines are not a good combination... this is the second time this happens and I eat shit. Everything has been fine.
Money: has been a different case...
Work: and somewhere along the lines of when I started my job, it has become a bussiness instead of a social service organization. They have fired people left and right during the school year-- something crazy is going on. so even less money. and I leave for brooklyn soon.
school is over. I think i ended up with 3 classes. hah! I started out with 6... I took 25 units 2 semesters ago... but I don't know what I'm doing. I don't need a house in Lake Michigan. I don't need a purpose. and the economy isn't dying to give me a job. so I choose to only take classes I saturate in. and I did. every class I took I enjoyed. I like going to school too.

Critical Mass was actually pretty intense last night-- the drivers were angry.
Ferry Building, down market through Soma, to potrero hill.
Then to the Mission, from then back to Valencia to the Castro.
Up Castro to Market, then to the Ball Park.
ended with a dance party behind the ball park.

girl! this shit is brilliant!
good source of news.
and just in case you don't know what the IMF is, a free encyclopedia while you're reading it.

so for example.. a quick headline:
Massachusetts becomes the first state to permit same-sex marriage in the U.S.

...so you can click on Massachusetts, state, and same sex marriage in the US, and read more about each.
it's revolutionary, i tell you! finally news everyone can grasp.
and they are pretty left! i love it.

but this may just be me putting my foot in my mouth. for all I know, the bush administration is behind this.

i hate that automatic fill in shit.
i was helping this older woman trying to go back to school.
i went to type in www.collegeboard.com
but www.collegecock.com appeared! and i couldn't get it to dissapear.
and she does the website for the library and is an editor. so i know she saw it.
we talked politics for a while... i love being in the library. I meet the most interesting people.
she edited "Deadly Deception"

... I was telling her about Wired's NextFest and how dissapointed I was...it was propoganda for GE.
As is that magazine... the sells itself as some progressive techie left magazine.. they have good articles... they are one of the few mainstream magazines that covered the patriot act and they do tons of coverage on surveillence and how we are loosing our rights. when I was at the record label our offices were right behind their building... there is some nice kids working there... but really. That magazine is abunch of invisible PR> in conclusion. nextFest sucked and don't buy wired. just read it in the grocery store.

In other news, German students developed the first emulation for running MAC OS X on a windows machine... its incomplete, buggy and horribly slow, but PC geeks are rushing to ty it out. read more...
