8:37 pm - Folk clubs and such.
|
Well, it's finally happened. I went to Club Passim last night. I guess it was bound to happen sometime. DaVinci's Notebook was a really fun show; I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard for two hours straight. As far as the crowd, I think Kelley summed it up best when she compared it to a Star Trek convention for its level of geekiness. The geeks shall inherit the earth. :-)

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but did Janet Jackson's boob fall out during the halftime show or what? That aside, all around good game. The Pats had a few miscues that made me feel like I needed PeptoBismol during the 2nd half, but we prevailed nonetheless. Too bad I'll be working on Tuesday, I got to go to the parade last time.

11:53 pm - The Party Was Rockin' Like Dokken
|
So Kelley's work has a holiday party. Big deal, right? Everyone has holiday parties. I guess that no one told the planners that it's not good to have the party start 4 hours before the store closes. So when the people that go there when the store closes are the ONLY people there. Yeah, I think that was a great idea. I wonder how much they had to pay to rent the Middle East Downstairs for that fiasco. So, that was my evening. Whoop.

So this is the beginning of winter, eh? Jesus, it's still autumn last I checked. We ran a special event station for Skywarn Recognition Day at Blue Hill Observatory in Milton . WX conditions were interesting to say the least. Towards the end of it we had 45 mph winds and almost a foot of snow up there. So this is what ham radio is all about? Nah, we had a good time, all in all. some of the 2 meter simplex contacts we made were rather impressive, but we had very good line of sight from the 635-ft elevation. HF didn't hold my interest for very long, and I ran an APRS setup off my laptop. Good times, good times.

9:44 pm - The Spending Begins....
|
Well, HRO wasn't quite as I had pictured it. It was about the size of a Tedeschi's, but chock full of radio gear. I wound up with an Icom IC-T90a. It's a handheld tri-band with wide band receive. NOw it's sitting on the charger. Damn this 15 hours charging before you can use it. Ah well, tomorrow will be fun, hopefully with some good QSOs.

Well, there it is. My new call sign issued by the FCC. I took the test a few weeks ago and am now officially an amateur radio operator, Technician class. I blame Kelley's parents completely for bringing me into the hobby. Ah well, tomorrow her father and I are going up to Ham Radio Outlet in Salem, NH so I can buy myself a rig. I'm guessing that Mark wants the one I borrowed from him back sooner rather than later. I just hope it doesn't overtake my spending levels on computer gear.......

Well, well well. It's certainly been a long time, hasn't it? So much has happened. I've finally found an apartment. Kelley and I are now living large in Quincy, MA. It's been a long time since I've had a 617 phone number, I think since I was at Northeastern, and that was about four years ago. So yeah, I've escaped Hingham, living with the girl, things are going well here. Kel and I are getting along, we've just passed the 1 month of living together point and we're both still alive, I think that's a good sign.
Rentall is still good, for the most part. I've started taking advantage of the "perks" my new boss has offered me, I just got a new set of tires (almost $600) as a "company expense". That and the free Nextel are going to keep me satisfied until next spring, I think. We're just about out of the busy season, so we're starting to wind down a little. No if only the damn temperature would drop some. I'm not enjoying this rash of mid-90s days we've had recently.
So if anyone wants to check out my new digs, gimme a call or an email, I'd love to have you over.

As much as I enjoyed actually having two days off in a row, I don't think it makes up for having to work the next five. Blah.

1:11 am - Beer and go-karts make the world go round
|
Oh yeah. two days in a row of barbecuing at Dave's place in UQincy, getting a little bit tipsy, and rolling down to Funway in East Bridgewater to ride the karts. Bumper cars is more like it, I got Dave around 180 today, then he got into a head-on collision. Damn that was good time. I also kicked some serious ass in minigolf. Ahh, weekend. I think I'll need it though, seeing as my next full day off is a week from now. But by that time Kelley an d I will be living it up in North Adams, rocking out at the TMBG show. Should be fun. Too bad it in the western most part of this damn state. Maybe I'll run into (or over :-) the governor out there.

Nothing caps off a good day better than watching my Red Sox sweep a doubleheader. Granted, the first one was more of a joke than game 2, which almost had me biting nails at the end.
Kelley and I went into MIT flea this morning, I picked up a soldering stand (or whatever you call the damn thing) for five bucks. We ran into Owen while we were there. I hadn't seen him for like 3 years, so that really brightened my day too. Tried to find a cheap switch, but no luck so I ended up grabbing a 5 port Linksys at compusa later. Hey, it does the job for me. Kel spent most of the evening installing Redhat onto her old computer, so not to be outdone I resurrected my old box as well, something I've been putting off for months now. Granted, I just threw 98SE on there for now, but it's a start. I think I'm gonna put mandrake on there if I get around to downloading the .iso anytime soon. Is it bad that when Kelley and I move in together, we'll be bringing at least 4-6 computers with us. God, maybe we should get a 2 bedroom for the space.

10:17 am - Rentall Classic Results, more.....
|
Well, it was a had-fought battle on the greens. At the end of the front nine Chris and Joe were all tied up front, with Frank trailing by a stroke. But it was decided in the back nine, as most games are. Chris lost his composure after a six and never fully recovered. Frank kept on rolling and wound up defeating Joe by one stroke. A good game all around, looking forward to the next round.
John's having me make another flyer, this one on excavators. Whoopie. We were busier Saturday and Monday than I've seen this place inb years. I think John was breathing a sigh of relief, after the slow winter we really kicked into high gear for the spring. All we have to do now is keep Chris's blood pressure down and we should be all set.
Kelley and I went to Kohl's yesterday, her mom gave her a $10 coupon and she needed some stuff. I didn't notice anything good there the first trime I went, but this time I ended up walking out of there with some button down shirts and a half dozen socks. Nothing like a good sale to lead to impulse buys. I ended up getting nothing I wanted to get done finished yesterday. The other computer isn't finished yet, even my laundry isn't done yet. Ah well, I'm meeting dave for lunch today, should be fun.....
BTW: Jon, call me, please!!

Not so much new these days. I came home early from work to scan some images in for a sales flyer I'm making. We have all this Wacker and Tsurumi equipment sitting in the showroom, and its not going to sell if people don't know we have it. Hence these flyers, and I'll prolly put something up on the sign by the street. It amazes me that John doesn't do some of these things on his own.
This past Sunday I gave my first Eagle Scout board of review since taking over as advancement chair for the Troop. Ths was special to me because the Scout has Down Syndrome, and he still made it all the way to Eagle. He earned all the badges he had to, did an Eagle project, everything. Te kid knows his stuff, I'm really proud to have passed him on his board. He has my blessings from the Troop, but It's in the hands of the council now. Good luck, Matty!

Well, It's been a few days. I realized over the past three days that when John isn't in the store, things just run so much more smoothly. I've also never heard more friendly death threats and ethnic slurs in one day as I did today. It's a real treat working with Frank & Mike, they play off each other so darn well. I dunno how long I'll stick around there, but at least I know I'll be having fun while I do.
In other news, it seems that old wounds got dragged open tonight. I think I would have enjoyed being a fly on the wall there. Hmph. People shouldn't go ballistic over things that happened years ago, didn't concern them then, and certainly don't concern them now. My advice is not to get involved. Pity, things seemed to be going so well, too... Amazing how things work out. Heh heh.

I visited Mrs. Whelan today, she's doing okay I think. Ussa's passing hit her pretty hard, I think. It was good seeing her, in any case. IN other news, I ran into Hugh downtown this afternoon. We were talking about random stuff and Kelle Clinton's mother came over to say hi to Hugh. She didn't remember my name, but oddly enough, she knew my sister's. Strange. Ah well, on to Wrestlemania. I know it's staged, but dang is it entertaining.
