Enough Power!

I was watching TV yesterday and this commercial popped up which was for a brand name computer. And the announcer said "...with a processor that has enough power for the whole family"!!!
I've been working with computers for ... ever ... and I didn't know that you should divide the processor's power by the number of family members!!
According to this new "technique", you should probably say "well, I'd go for a Pentium 2.0GHz, but since grandma is gonna use it too sometimes, let's get the 2.4GHz so that there'll be enough power for the whole family"!!

"Bus"y Observations :: front or back

I didn't buy a parking permit this semester, so I have the opportunity to observe a lot of social phenomenons during my bus ride from the park 'n ride to our building!! One of these observations worth writing is that: people can be devided into two types! those who sit in the front of the bus and those who sit in the back of the bus! of course I'm talking about an empty bus. Say you are sitting in a bus with just you and the driver, and there comes another passenger. And you pretty much know that there'll be no other passengers till the end of trip. Now, the natural choice would be to just sit in one of seats in the front, right? wrong! I can say, that based on my observations! about 50% of the people, walk all the way to the back of the empty bus and sit there!! Since I dont' get exactly why would you want to walk to the back, and then walk again to the front to get off, I'd say they are different type of people, personality wise that is!!

Winston-Salem? Kidding Me?

I like Raleigh! It’s a nice city and as they say it has all the "amenities of a big city with the charm of a small southern city". However, it's not a world-class city, and I certainly don't expect to see it in the list of the world-class cities. And I know that most of the times, when the talk is about North Carolina, it's overshadowed by its bigger sister, Charlotte!
However, I just saw this ranking table for the best cities of the world and although I wasn't surprised by not seeing Raleigh in the list, I was super-surprised by seeing Winston-Salem!!! And not just seeing Winston-Salem, but seeing it right before Portland, and two places before New York.
I mean come on... Winston-Salem? I go there every other week (ask our friends there!!) and I know Winston-Salem!
Now how can I make fun of my friend on this "Winston-Salem-is-nothing-compared-to-Raleigh" issue? Just get that off the list! Will you?!

And don't forget, Raleigh was ranked the best city in USA by MSN for 2003. And...no...I don't see Winston-Salem there!!!

The first time she saw my face!

As if I wasn't happy enough with the iTune $0.99 music store! Here is another great feature: All the Billboard Charts from 1946!! Now it has two main advantages :: (1) you can revisit the songs from the period that you've good memories and make those gray cells have a nice flashback and (2) you can see what song was number one on the chart when you were born, and buy it!! (of course if you're not too old!!)
As for me (1972), the no. 1 song has an interesting title too! It's called "The first time ever I saw your face"!!! by Roberta Flack (Although I should confess that I listened to it's sample and I didn't like it ... but it was 1972 for god sake.)
Hmmm...did she sing this one for me? I mean the title...

About Me

My name is Homayoun. I was born in Tehran, and I’m currently living in Raleigh, North Carolina, where I’m a PhD student of 'computational mechanics' at NC State University. I’ve a beautiful wife, Golnar, and little princess, Hanna, hence the name of the weblog! Despite the title, ‘Hanna & Me’ is not just about Hanna, nor about me. It’s just a daily journal about anything that happens, or doesn’t, in my daily life and is worth writing. Although most of my life is in an academic environment, I'll try to keep that dimension in my other website, and leave this one for other aspects of life. Thanks for visiting.
