Finally the letter I was waiting for, arrived. Yesterday I received a letter fromBureau of Citizenship and Immigration services that my request for the removal fo the conditional basis of my permanent resident status has been approved. I was waiting for this letter for almost a year. It means that I would receive my permanent green card, however it won't happen for another six months. At least I heard something. It was really frosterating. I wanted to travel outside of US and it was not possible. Since I entered America through marriage, my first green card was temporary. After 2 years, I had to apply for a permanent green card, which was last December. I thought like the temporary one , I would receive this one within 3 month, but I was wrong. I feel a little bit better now. Maybe I can go back to Iran and see my family in near future. I missed them soooooooooooooo much.

November is a busy month at work. I work at a food bank (Care and Share Food Bank). Food banks are non-profit, non-govermental organizations. The role of a food bank in community is to solicit the surplus food and direct it to low-income individuals or families. However, the food bank never does food distribiution directly. The agencies such as food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters would receive the food from food bank and will provid it free of charge to the families or individuals. This month we have thanksgiving ahead of us and right after that comes holiday season. We have to collect as much food as we can , in order to provide enough resources for the agencies. We have different food drives which encourage people in the community to donate money or non-perishable food items to us. I love my job. Working in a non-profit organization is totally different than working in a gaint cooperate. I mean different in a good sense.

Do you want to know what I do at Care & Share? I am Kids Cafe coordinator. Kids Cafes are like soup kitchens for kids from low-income families. It was a shock for me to find out in America childhood hunger is a hidden problem. Of course food banks all over the U.S. and America's Second Harvest has joined together to address this issue, especially childhood hunger. I wish we has such organizations in Iran too.

It's a nice sunny Sunday in Colorado Springs. Yesterday, we had our first snow. It wasn't that much, about half an inch. We have a nice weather in Colorado.

Yesterday, I went to monitor an agency. I was talking to the director. She asked my nationality. She was surprised to find out that I am Iranian and her next question was:"Are you really from Iran?' "Yes!!!", I said.

I wished this would be the end of the conversation. But she wanted to find out more. She asked why I am here. "Marriage", I explained. The immediate question was whether my husband is in the military. In my head I said "Don't you know Iran and US have no relation and there is no American soldier in Iran." However, I didn't articulate that instead I said my husband is an Iranian too. She wanted to know how we met. I was tired of this question/answer thing (interrogation) and just changed the subject.

This has been the typical conversation I have had during passed 2 and half years, whenever I met with an American in Colorado Springs. I call here a village and I will give you my reasons.

This is my first posting. I am an Iranian woman and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado about 3 years ago. I read Iranian Weblogs everyday and decided to give it a try myself. So bear with me. I will improve this page little by little.

Ps. Congratulations to Ms. Shirin Ebadi for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
