In a rather hackish attack on John Kerry, "Greyhawk" launches this rather, ah, stupid attack on him.
Yep. The only way to define black voters is gangsta rap. Besides the utter historical stupidity this shows in how the first black president was defined (although I have the feeling Toni Morrison is anathema to him), why are black voters defined by gangsta rap? I just find it interesting that that's the first thing you define black voters by, but maybe it's just me.
Posted by Jesse Taylor at March 29, 2004 12:26 PM | TrackBackSame folks who characterize Condi Rice as a "poor lil Black Gurl" upon whom the Big Mean Clarke is picking. She is about as helpless as a pit bull, and it seems to me that the pitiable characterization is what one should find demeaning.
Posted by: Scorpio at March 29, 2004 12:37 PMI don't know if its still true, but a few years back Gangsta Rap was primarily consumed by White Suburban Boys who wanted to pretend to be tough. Although I'd love to see a rap showdown between Bush and Kerry at a debate. Not because it would demonstrate anything, but it would cement the surreality that is America today.
Posted by: madscot at March 29, 2004 12:42 PMIt's still true, actually. Particularly that genre of rap, given that it's the most commercialized.
Posted by: jesse at March 29, 2004 12:45 PMI really don't think I should be listening to political commentary fromsomeone who names himself after a goddamn Dungeons and Dragons setting.
Shit, if you're gonna go that route, I'd at least expect you to pick a good one. I want to hear about the deficit from a man named "Planescape", and about Gay Marriage from "Ravenloft."
Go re-roll your save against retardation, "Greyhawk", because I think you're about to lose.
Posted by: Chris Martin at March 29, 2004 12:54 PMThis one was nice too:
Could young Republicans pack a nightclub like Dream? The question was put to Q-Tip as he relaxed on a velvet couch next to a beautiful woman in a V.I.P. lounge. "I don't know about that," he said. "But after these jokes Bush has been making about W.M.D.'s, maybe they could fill a comedy club." ...
IT seemed a little odd to hear a rapper faulting the president's propriety, just as it seemed odd at first to see Democrats outraged about the president's joke at a journalists' dinner Wednesday night.
I guess rappers aren't allowed to criticize Bush because they're not all Will Smith squeaky clean (I must credit Metajournalism). This is O'Reilly-esque.
Posted by: Dimmy Karras at March 29, 2004 04:30 PMSad this thread is dead. Perhaps I can re-ignite elsewhere.
The reference is to pandering. I was predicting that sort of behavior from Kerry.
Sadly, the real world is often too predictable.

I'm fascinated by Rap and Hip-Hop" said Democratic presidential candidate, John Kerry during an MTV Choose or Lose forum. Offering up a heavy dose of street credibility, Kerry defended gangsta rap, freedom of speech and the realities of street life.
Chris M: I'm a grey haired old military guy, hence Greyhawk. The remainder of your comment is foul gibberish. Channel your anger and make a contribution.
