Date: 28 March 2003 Summary: Great, simple romantic comedy
The first feature role of Audrey Hepburn was the one of Princess Ann in
'Roman Holiday'. The story is simple. She is visiting Rome as a princess
should do that, with a full schedule. After her schedule for the next day
has been read to her she is tired of it and escapes into the big city of
Rome. A journalist, who knows who she is, shows her the city. She lies about
what she really is and he lies about what he really is. Together with his
photographer they have the best day in their lives.
'Roman Holiday' is one of the most wonderful romantic comedies I have seen.
Beautifully shot in black and white and with a great direction by William
Wyler the city of Rome looks perfect. Gregory Peck as the journalist and
especially Eddie Albert as the photographer are very good in their roles but
as in all her pictures Audrey Hepburn steals the show. She is a great and
very funny actress and on top of that she is just one of the most beautiful
women ever. The simplicity of the story is brought to you with such warmth
and joy you just have to like this film.
