Raymond E. Trygstad Assistant Director for Information Technology, Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus Lecturer in Information Technology and Business B.S., United States Naval Academy M.S. Systems Management, University of Denver ![]()

Ray Trygstad has broad experience and education in the Internet, personal
computers, management, and education. As Assistant Director for Information
Technology at IIT's Daniel F. and Ada L.
Rice Campus in Wheaton, Illinois, he is responsible for technology planning
and computer system management and administration for the entire Rice Campus.
He also serves as curriculum manager for the Information Technology & Management (ITM) Degree programs offered
by IIT's Center for Professional Development
(CPD) as well as Director of Information Technology for CPD and Webmaster for
CPD, ITM and the Rice Campus. He has served as Information Systems
Administrator for a university department and for a Navy aviation squadron
with over 500 people, and has managed a
multimedia center providing campus-wide
multimedia computing support. As Client Services Manager for IIT's
Computing and Network Services (CNS)
Mr. Trygstad managed a division responsible for all IIT Main Campus computer labs, Novell
networks, the Helpdesk, and all technical and structural aspects of the
university's Web site. He has wide experience with the World Wide Web and
has created and maintains a large group of homepages, including pages for
the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, for
alumni of the
U.S. Naval Academy, and the Naval
and Maritime page of the World Wide Web
Virtual Library. He has been the Webmaster for multiple Web servers
including the Instructional Multimedia Center
and the Alumni Web Server at IIT and was the direct line supervisor of the
University Webmaster. Conversant with the Windows, UNIX, Linux operating systems,
he has extensive conventional and computer graphics experience as well as formal
Navy training and experience in information security. A 1977 graduate of the
U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis,MD, he has been
designated a Computer Systems Management Subspecialist by the U. S. Navy where he served as an Information Systems
Security Officer. Having earned a Master of Science in Systems Management from the
University of Denver, Mr. Trygstad created
and coordinated the IIT Internet
Access program, providing Internet Education for students, educators
and business people and Internet access for community groups and activities.
Through this program he was responsible for basic Internet education of over
1000 students, including 800 K-12 educators. As an outgrowth of this program,
he is also the Program Manager of IIT's
Certificate Program in Educational
Technology, which has recently been completely
redesigned for a new launch of the program. In addition to instructing
Computer Science and Informatiuon Technology, he has taught Web Design for
the e-Commerce Masters program
of IIT's Stuart Graduate School of
Business and has taught
e-Commerce technology for
the University of Chicago. In addition to his academic and university
computing duties, Mr. Trygstad has a consulting practice focusing on the
Internet, networks, and graphic design, and is the owner of
Webmaster Sources LLC, a Web
startup providing market-specific online resources for Web developers and
Web developer curricular materials for higher education. This background,
coupled with his years of service as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy,
has provided him with a unique perspective on the problems of managing
technology. His experience as a college professor as well as over four years
as Navy Flight Instructor have made him an expert in curriculum development.
Prior to his current positions with IIT, Mr. Trygstad was an Assistant Professor
of Naval Science at IIT, and he currently maintains the
Naval and Maritime page of the World
Wide Web Virtual Library. He is a member of the
Association of Internet Professionals,
the Internet Society, the
Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers, the World Wide Web Virtual
Library, the U.S. Naval Institute
and the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association. He serves on the Council
of the World Wide Web Virtual Library
and on the Association of Internet Professionals
Certification Accreditation Council which designs the accreditation standards
for Internet educational programs on an international level, and is a Subject
Matter Expert for the
CompTIA
i-Net+ examination.
