As dangerous as Bush is, the Republican leadership in Congress could do even more long-term damage to our country. It's essential not just to remove Bush from office, but restore sanity to the legislative branch.

The majority leader of the Senate, Bill Frist, believes that a constitutional amendment is required to outlaw gay marriage. He also admits to kidnapping kittens as a med student and dissecting them at home.

Frist's predecessor, Trent Lott, said that the United States would be better off with a segregationist president. Though rarely heard from lately, Lott is still in the U.S. Senate.

Frist's trusty assistant, Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, believes that homosexuality is morally equivalent to bestiality and incest.

 Congressional Majority Leader Tom Delay thinks that crops grown without the beneficial effects of pesticides are carcinogenic.

Many people think it doesn't matter what the party leadership believes, so long as their local Republican candidate isn't a zealot. This is not true. Since the party has lately proven very effective in getting its members to vote in lockstep with Bush and the leadership, every Republican congressperson and Senator, no matter how moderate they may seem, is as dangerous as Santorum.
