Bust Bob Novak! -- Send the Letter

On July 14, 2003, "journalist" Robert Novak revealed the name of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame in print after speaking to a White House official. The agent's husband, former US Ambassador Joseph Wilson IV, had publicly challenged President Bush's claim that Iraq had tried to buy uranium ore from Africa -- exposing yet another misleading rationale for war.

While causing consternation among some CIA and Administration officials ("Clearly it was meant purely and simply for revenge," a senior Administration official said of the alleged leak. (Washington Post, 9/28/03)), it has not yet caused a change of conscience among the leaker -- or the man who endangered US national security assets by publishing the name, one Robert Novak.

We don't need to wait for John Ashcroft and George Bush to find the leaker who is on the loose. One man knows. And he should come clean. He is not a journalist. He is an ideologue. And most of all, he is a traitor.

Be the 15623rd person to tell Bob Novak's bosses at the Chicago Sun-Times it's time for him to come clean or get the boot.

Nearly five months after betraying our national security, Bob Novak is unapologetic and still on the job. I'm asking that Mr. Novak come clean and identify the leaker for the sake of our national security, or be fired.

Consider these facts:
** Even after the intelligence agency asked him not to, Mr. Novak leaked the identity of an undercover CIA agent.

** Mr. Novak has refused to apologize for revealing Valarie Plame's name, even after he learned that he'd breached national security and

**Despite his work as a columnist for many years at your paper, and as a commentator on CNN, Mr. Novak sits on the board of The Phillips Foundation, an ultra-conservative foundation. There are many journalists who won't register with a party affiliation to maintain objectivity, while Novak not only proudly displays his far-right ideology, but acts against the nation's security when it fits his political ends. In short, Mr. Novak is a tool of the far right.

**This is not the first time that Mr. Novak has been involved in politically-motivated leaks, and some of the past leaks have involved Richard Perle -- another conservative who sits on the board of The Sun-Times parent company.

I expect higher standards from one of the most prominent papers in the country, and in the wake of a more dangerous world, I ask that you demand Mr. Novak come clean -- or his column should be dropped for the sake of our national security.
