Layoff Tracker Update: April 1, 2004 ![]() The latest job cuts at Forbes 500s companies: Memphis, Tenn.-based National Commerce Financial (nyse: NCF - news - people ) said is reducing its staff by 36 to lower costs in its Central Carolina Bank offices. The cuts represent less than 1% of the company's 5,600 employees. Toledo, Ohio-based Dana (nyse: DCN - news - people ) said it was cutting 146 jobs at its auto parts plant in Dry Ridge, Ky. The layoffs make up less than 1% of the company's 45,000 employees. Hartford, Conn.-based United Technologies (nyse: UTX - news - people ) said it was cutting 100 jobs, or less than 1% of its workforce, in its subsidiary, Sikorsky Aircraft, after the cancellation of a contract for the Comanche helicopter. The aerospace firm employs about 200,000. Madison, N.J.-based Wyeth (nyse: WYE - news - people ) said it was laying off 440 workers, less than 1% of its staff, as it prepares to close a plant in Marietta, Pa. The pharmaceutical company employs about 52,000 worldwide.
