[meaning: "Wrong!"] I've read their files--thousands of them, taking an illegal act as the predicate for investigating everything--and everyone Wrong! [meaning: "Right!"] Cointelpro hides its face under many masks-- some lies just never change True! [meaning "False!"] These lies will mutate and evolve the expansions and retractions that can easily become truths No! [meaning: "Yes!] Inalienable rights and forgone conclusions are being recalled into an uncommon lore as personal freedoms devolve into myth, and the truth finally becomes the lie. I doubt you will. they called it "Just Cause"--keep that conscience pure! you wouldn't like to know Marines could kill three or four thousand--no one can be sure-- with laser weapons or--unthinkable!-- chemical agents... poorest of the poor that darkest of nights in a dark dark barrio! o help us not remember Panama... they did it very suddenly, they did it in the night they were going to get a barracks, & they didn't hit it right. they missed their chosen target, they incinerated slums. some thousands burned to death--(who cares-- who's counting--only bums!) discreet & diplomatic like the older Bush (Papa,) the media clammed up, so who'll remember Panama?... Noriega had sought refuge with the Papal Nuncio-- all over bar the shouting & a curtain to the show, when a general & a journalist appeared on CNN. said the soldier to the hack "you have maligned my valiant men!" "whaddya mean," the hack replied, "there's beans we never spilled about the fifteen hundred Panamanians you killed!" they hadn't, & they didn't when a thousand or two more (just as innocent) civilian dead were added to the score; which exceeds--this shouldn't over-tax our computational powers-- the sum of all the innocents who died in the Twin Towers. "the world was changed" that day by what we witnessed from afar... how come it wasn't changed by the assault on Panama? they buried the story from the start - don't tell me no-one knew? o yes they did! the South Ameri- cans, to name a few, reported it. the truth seeped north in 1992. "The Panama Deception" & the honest Ramsay Clark were savaged in the rightwing press-- who keeps such matters dark? sycophantic talk-show hosts & hacks of low degree, bland anchor men, straight twisters of what all the world can see; they'll tell it inside out & upside down & back to front; when they're selling infotainment, Panamanians don't count. let not your heart be troubled, let regrets not give you pause that some four thousand innocents were slaughtered "Just Because." why nothing was 'changed utterly' in 1989? murder was a piece of what was happening all the time in Guatemala, Salvador & Nicaragua-- o there wasn't that much special about poor old Panama. some of the Innuit--erstwhile Eskimo-- tell this creation story: see a churlish infant, choosy swine before a pearl, govern the universe, chortle, chirp & crow, blind & almighty, lashing at friend & foe-- a baby in tempestuous tantrums whirled... now see him, running, ruining the world, sitting in the White House, on his po. illiterate, he knows not what he does. cartoon horror historians, to scare him into action, feed the latest buzz: "wa-wa-waah! there's some bad folks out there!" (a sentiment that's felt in Panama most when they remember Bush papa.)
