Unanticipated Consequences
By
STEW ALBERT
Rummy says
he's surprised
that Iraqi holdout members
of the Saddam fan club
are able to mount
such an effective resistance
to Rummy's rules.
Figured
they were such pushovers in the war
cause they wanted
to throw flowers at him
turns out
they wanted to be tossing bombs.
Wonder why
he's so surprised
cause these guys
gave him Baghdad on the cheap
didn't suffer much casualties
kept their weapons
becoming natural recruits
to a secret rebel army
of hate and resistance
to Rummy's rules.
So far its
mostly Sunnis
popping caps and blasting bombs,
shocked as he is
by this hellish hutzpah
Rummy of Arabia
rummaging through Islamic rage
must be wondering
what will happen
when
the Shi'ite
hits the fan.
Stew Albert runs the Yippie
Reading Room. His memoir, Who
the Hell is Stew Albert?, is forthcoming from Red Hen Press.

The
Sun Has Riz on Bethlehem
By LARRY KEARNEY
the sun has
riz on Bethlehem
and all the tanks are stirring-
and through
the streets of Tel Aviv
a young man's bomb is whirring-
and all the
kids wake up to this,
and look around, and wouldn't cry-
but "what
the fuck?" the tough guys spit,
"those are marbles, were their eyes-"
