This teeters on the line a bit, but... I saw a fire lane today. The words printed therein?
"FIRE LAИE"
Sure, it's more a case of "Dude, you have the stencil backwards" than an actual spelling error, but still, if you're working with these things on a fairly regular basis, not to mention the language...
Maybe he's Russian. (For those who didn't know, "И" is a Cyrillic letter.)

I just spent an hour looking though wedding cards for my aunt who is getting married tomorrow... I thought I had settled on one that wasn't too cheesy or flowery, when I noticed THERE WAS A GRAMMATICAL ERROR ON THR FRONT! I can't remember the exact quote; I just remember it had a verb with an -s ending with a plural subject. ick. no wonder I took an hour in that stupid store.

It's nice to have a place to rant to people who feel my pain.
I'm taking an online college course, and a girl spelled guru as "goo-ru."
This annoyed me even more than improper spelling usually does. Ignorance and stupidity come to mind, even though I'm probably being too hard on her. Is it that difficult to learn how to spell such things?
This ranks right up there with one of my friends spelling "lab top" and "intamint."

Hello. I'm new to this community. Let me introduce myself: Sheila, 23, Tennessee, former diabetes research analyst currently looking for a job (you're right mom, there *isn't* much you can do with a BS in Psych/Phil) and applying to grad schools. My biggest pet peeve is probably misspelled words, though number errors come in a close second (a pound of apples for .79 cents? Wow!!). People tell me I have a lot of idiosyncrasies (such as the spelling/numbers thing), but I just see it as not wanting to contribute to the idiocy of the world. Sorry if this post is coming across as "biting" ... I've had a bad day.
Cheerio!

Greetings and salutations, fellow word nerds! I like the idea of this community, seeing as I am often referred to as a 'grammar nazi.' But really, I'm not about to go demanding that anyone who doesn't know the difference between 'there,' 'their,' and 'they're' should be shot... maybe just re-programmed :) hehehe. Anyway, an introduction! My name is Cairo (yes, after the capital of Egypt), and I live in Australia. I'm currently 15 and in year 10 in highschool. This was probably a bad time to join, seeing as I am leaving the country on Thursday, but that can't be helped. Do you think I've rambled enough? Sorry, I'm supposed to be doing my homework. Obviously, I'm not! So I shall leave you all in peace now!

Though I will freely admit I can't type and am somewhat prone to typos, I am a spelling and grammar nazi. I always have been, really. I started reading at a very young age, and I have what my mother calls a "mimeographic memory"--I remember everything I read. (In other words, I can recite nearly word-for-word passages from books I read fifteen years ago, but I can't find my keys.)
Well, yeah. That's my spelling stuff. Aside from that, I'm a general geek in pretty much every aspect except maybe computers, and also a Harry Potter fangirl.

I'd like to apologize for my awful response time to those of you kept waiting. There really isn't a good excuse, but my reason is that I'm terribly busy trying to get into college, which takes precedence over the other email. Welcome, new members.

Last night my cable company's digital menu (Mediacom, Jefferson City, MO) offered "Licence to Kill." License is a common spelling error and so, to my mind, more unforgivable than others.

Striving for a world without spelling errors! |
[28 Jan 2004|11:09am] |
Hello everyone!
First and foremost, I'd like to send a *huge* thank you to the creators and moderators of this community! It's incredibly nice to know that in regards to spelling and grammar there are other individuals that are also anal-retentive. *laughs* With that said, whenever I see errors (especially spelling) in essays, newspapers, signs, etc. I automatically take out my trusty red pen and correct them.
Currently, I am enrolled in the Public Relations program at Laurentian University and in addition, work at a P.R. firm. My boss is admittedly spelling and grammar illiterate so I often find myself correcting her work (not that I mind!).
I confess that it does sometimes happen that I make mistakes (I blame it on typos! *laughs*). Therefore, I would like to make this an open invitation for fellow elitists to hack away at my posts. Really, it would be greatly appreciated!

So, I'm a big fan of the communities here at Livejournal. Recently switched here from Diaryland for a variety of reasons and only realized the complexity and coolness of the communities upon investigating Livejournal a bit more. This is one that I'm personally very proud of being able to join, as five years ago I'd be shunned as one of the more hopeless cases.
It always annoys me how people will actually become worse at spelling upon really getting 'into' the internet. They learn brb, rotfl, and u and suddenly I'm correcting their essays with tears in my eyes. Yes, it's true, I've allowed friends to become corrupted, so disappointed in myself.
I actually became a much better speller once I began posting online. Once I realized people took you a lot more seriously if you actually bothered to capitalize your I's and put a period at the end of your sentences I started doing it regularly. I'm quite good at it by now, actually. *smile*
Hope to see you posting.

i like how careful all the members of this community must be whenever they're posting something, to make sure they're not making a silly spelling mistake either.
:)
