I'm Nick.
I grew up in Connecticut where I didn't fit in. I then went to college in upstate New York, where I didn't fit in. I then moved to San Francisco for graduate school, where I didn't fit in. Noticing a trend?
I'm your typical geeky recluse workaholic artist. After wasting three years of my life trying to get a graduate degree in a field I had grown weary of, I hung it all up and bowed down to my Lord and Master, Macromedia Flash. For the first time in years, I think I'm actually having fun again!
Since then I've started my own cartoon & comic series, Strategy Guide, which has seen an unexpected level of success and granting me a certain level of pointless Internet fame. All the same, I love it. When I'm not entertaining the masses with my off-beat alien humor, I do freelance design work.
I'm single, and growing more and more jaded by the day. It's not that I'm not interested, it's just that I don't have the time to go out and pick up on girls.
I have no patience for people who refuse to use periods.
Although I've never been diagnosed, I'm pretty damned sure I have some form of social anxiety. Because of this, I tend to get really quiet and reserved in groups.
Some day I'm really going to put a link in here to a page outlining a full Needle History. There's nothing I love more than nostalgia. Memories fascinate me to no end.
The nickname "Needle" originates from my early days switching from BBS culture to Internet culture. I used it the first time I ever logged onto a Cu-SeeMe reflector. It just kind of stuck, and now seven years later, I've built my empire around it. It's a metaphor for my artistic philosophy - As information and ideas pass through the eye, they emerge from the other side transformed into something more beautiful than before.
Unfortunately, I get a lot of syringe and penis jokes. I'm used to it.
Depending on where you met me, you may also know me as Raptor (pre-1996) or AmbientRed (IRC, and generally used as a backup).
I'm a game collector of sorts. I never sell any of my games. In fact, I still have all of my old systems hooked up. My two favorites are my Astrocade and the copy of Radiant Silvergun I got in 1998 before people started selling them for $200.
I put a lot of my old sketches and flash work in my DeviantArt account. It's more convenient than cluttering up my own servers.
