Most of you probably haven't heard of hardcore, metalcore,or pretty much any other kinda core (well, i expect stabtacular has). That's what i'm really into these days. Hardcore is.... well... hard. There is alot of screaming, which bothers alot of people, but i think when done right adds a really nice emotional charge. It involves heavy riffs, lots of tempo changes, and alot of hard metal, and punk influences.
It's kinda sad, cause i hear bands these days, and i now longer see them as "heavy". So many bands, especially those in the popular music scene just don't even come close to hardcore.
I was imidiately hooked on my first hardcore show, and would prolly spend 3 nights a week at shows, if i was in an area with a good scene. There is just so much energy in hardcore (the energy is amazingly visable at shows), and just being around people into the music is such a cool experience. I've never been one to dance, but whenever a breakdown hits (breakdowns are parts of a song made to make people "dance") i wanna jump in the pit with everyone else and just go nuts... Anyone who knows me, and heard me say that would be more than surprised.
For a long time i've been drawn to weird music, so hardcore fits me quite well. I still listen to all of my other weird music, but i think i've found a winner with hardcore.

OK. So the boat seems to have sailed a bit on Ani since I was in college, but I wanted to point out that Disc 1 of "Living in Clip" might contain some of the best live performances of all time, specifically Fire Door followed by Both Hands.
Fire Door has always been one of my favorites for the great visual imagery in the lyrics and the wicked funk brought by the band on this recording.
Both Hands with the symphony is spectacular. I'm generally against oh say, Metallica, playing along with a symphony, but Ani pulls it off pretty well.
So there you go: two songs that will lift you up, set you down, and rip your heart out.
"I wasn't kidding when I said 'good-bye.'"

for those about to rock... |
[12 Dec 2003|02:06am] |
okay, that being over with, here are some sites i found while cleaning out my favorites cache on my computer:
this one is fun: dress me up. this one i read when i first started getting into emo: read me. this one is true: classic rock. this one is weird: kitty. ryan adams's EP love is hell part one came today and i haven't even opened it. i've been getting so much music lately that it isn't fun right now. i bought the rapture and two NWA tapes two weeks or so ago, and two of the three are still unopened. i need a vacation.
oh, but i saw this thing tonight where andrew wk goes to one of those HBCU's and hangs out with these black girls and he lets them cornrow his hair and it was so amazing. i love him!
