Fark Farked

I'm not sure if this is an April fools joke or if Fark has actually been hacked, but I thought it best to save it for posterity in any case. Click for a larger image.

And Wil Wheaton is next! (See right column).

Capitalism Still Alive In WA

Despite Dr. Gallop's attempts to kill it off, you just can't stop capitalism.

About 500m from my house there is a supermarket and deli run by an asian family which is well known to many in Scarborough for the notable fact that they have a policy of selling cigarettes as a loss-leader. A packet of smokes that costs $10.50 at a rival deli, or $9.20 at Woolies, sells for $8.80 on Sacky Terrace. Cheapest smokes in town!

A friend of mine who works for BAT informs me that this is indeed lower than the wholesale price. Everything else there is pretty cheap too, and the 8 car carpark is full most times of the day, they're doing a roaring trade.

The best thing about this place isn't the cheap smokes, though. It's the little red-haired kid who hangs out in the carpark all day washing windows. He looks about 10-11 years old, and should really be riding around on his BMX tipping over wheelie bins, but instead he's camped in the deli carpark with a squeegee and bucket.

He gets a couple of gold coins per car, and makes about $20-30 an hour at that rate. TAX-FREE. Not bad for 10 years old. He doesn't even have to endanger himself by standing at a set of traffic lights.

It's only a matter of time before the ATO, Worksafe, Healthway et al get stuck into them, so enjoy it while you can.

Australia Under Attack - Worthless Credentials Needed

ASIO is on the recruitment trail. Just the perfect opportunity for a young RWDB who's allergy to grass prevented him from joining the RAAF. Or so you'd think...

Given the challenging and complex nature of our work, we are looking for people with sound judgement, who excel at both critical thinking and communication.

More specifically, you would have:

  • The ability to talk with, and listen to, people from all cultures and walks of life.

  • Conceptual skills which allow you to discern the big picture.

  • Critical thinking and research skills, which enable you to accurately fill the gaps.

  • The ability to write reports which are clear, concise, comprehensive and tailored to your readers.

You should also be confident, versatile, mentally resilient and prepared to undergo extensive background checks, as well as security and psychological assessments.

Sounds right up my alley. Just one more thing though:

Other than the general profile above, you will need:

A four-year degree (or the equivalent) - in any discipline.

Credentialism at it's finest. I'm not eligible to apply, but a recent graduate of any discipline - which presumably includes women's studies or surfing science - is.

You don't need a degree to be an intelligence officer in the ADF. Why do you need one to be an intelligence officer at ASIO?

Newsflash: Murali Chucks

Renowned English stump smasher Chris Broad has decided that Murali's action is indeed suspect.

CONTROVERSIAL Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has been reported for throwing but can still claim the world record for the greatest number of wickets.

Murali was reported by match referee Chris Broad during the final day of the third Test, which Australia won by 121 to take an historic 3-0 clean sweep of the series.

Next week I'm expecting the ICC to comment on the hue of the sky. Early tips are that it's blue. Stay tuned.

Welcome

Say G'day to the new home of Yobbo. Gravett special ops came to me in the night, tied me up and forced me to watch "A Current Affair" repeats until I caved into their demands. The result: A Yobbo's View is now a member of the Gravett empire, and I have an overwhelming desire to secretly videotape dodgy mechanics. Hey...check out the arse on that chick below!
