MICHELLE MASON (Ph.D. University of Chicago, 2001) specializes in ethics, moral psychology, and theories of practical reason. She has received fellowships from the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation (Charlotte W. Newcombe Fellow, 1999-2000) and Harvard University's Center for Ethics and the Professions (Faculty Fellow in Ethics, 2002-2003), as well as research support from the Andrew Mellon Foundation. Her current research examines the shape that a successful defense of the rationality of moral action, centered on the concept of a practical virtue, might take. Among her more general interests in moral psychology is a concern to better understand attitudes that take persons as their intentional objects; some of her recent work in this area includes investigations of contempt and shame as moral attitudes.
