Contracting Mohammed

Atrios alerts me to this latest, um, chapter in the Pfc Jessica Lynch story:

Only 10 days after receiving political asylum in the United States, the Iraqi lawyer who led United States marines to captured Pfc. Jessica D. Lynch has sold the rights to publish a book about his experience to HarperCollins for an advance of nearly $500,000.

The advance guarantees the lawyer, Mohammed Odeh al-Rehaief, 33, a substantial nest egg in his new country. Mr. Rehaief, his wife and 5-year-old daughter were granted asylum on April 29.

The unanswered question is whether Borders will have to stock it in the fiction or non-fiction section.

the real question is why he would need asylum if the US now controls Iraq. is that an acknowledgement that we won't protect his rights?
