2003 Jeds winners announcement [20 Jan 2004|12:17am]
thejeds
The 2003 Jeds committee would like to officially announce the winners in this year's Jeds West Wing Fanfiction awards. Head on over to the Jeds website and click on 'winners'.

The committee's thanks go to every one of you who nominated stories, voted, came back to vote in the final round, sent kudos, informed us in the politest ways possible of the snags. The response has been tremendous, and you all helped make it worth all the work.

Final voting in the 2003 Jeds [07 Jan 2004|10:32pm]
thejeds
Final Voting in the 2003 Jeds is now open and runs for a total of ten days. Click on the nominees link at the site to cast your votes for the best of the finalists.

Each category has the top five stories listed (if there are more, it means that there was an unbroken tie, and we didn't want to exclude anyone who received enough votes to get to the third round!). Go vote for one story in each category - the one you truly believe was the best of the year. Final Voting runs through January 17, 2004.

Primary voting ends December 31st [28 Dec 2003|02:29pm]

This is a reminder that Primary Voting in the 2003 Jeds ends on Wednesday, December 31st. If you haven't had a chance to make it over to the site (click on 'nominees') and cast your votes yet, now is the time!

In this round, you get to browse all 44 categories of nominated stories and vote for your five favorites in each one. The top five stories in each category will make it to the final round of voting.

So, obviously, I've been forgetting to post challenges on a weekly basis. Mostly that's because I have a tendency to forget that it's Wednesday, now that I have nothing binding me to the day. But this week, I think you have something better to do than write drabbles. 12/17! Hail to the king!

If you feel the sudden, urgent need to write, there're plenty of challenges that garnered no response whatsoever. Or even those that did could always use another response. Do as you please, I am unconcerned.

A drabble that involves with some sort of unusual weather, anything from a blizzard to an inordinately beautiful day early in spring.

The childhood challenge [05 Nov 2003|09:37pm]

Kind of self-explanatory. A scene that takes place before, let's say, Sam's fourteenth birthday.

The ludicrous halloween challenge [29 Oct 2003|09:42pm]

So, this week. Heh. I think the title speaks for itself. Vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts, goblins, wizards, zombies, pirates, princesses. If it can be found on your doorstep asking for candy, it can be found in your drabble. Go crazy.

A drabble that takes place entirely outdoors. No buildings or roads may be mentioned, but we have to know where he is and why.

Sam's drunk, and Josh's body is so close, but he still can't stop thinking about his father, about the curt conversation he couldn't bear to continue.

"Sorry Toby and Donna couldn't help me put you to bed," Josh says with a half-smirk.

"That's never been my thing," Sam mutters.

"Good to know." He helps him to the bed, swaying himself until he plops onto the mattress. "Sam...I know things have.....you're okay, right?"

He knows Josh wouldn't be able to handle any answer but "I'm fine," so that's what he grants him. Kissing him, Sam does his best imitation of happiness.

"So." Josh is focused on the passing pedestrians. "I guess, you know, we'll see you around."

The "you know" tells him differently. The "we" physically hurts.

"Yeah."

Josh nods. "Good."

There's a moment of silence. He knows his time is up. "Anyway, I should go." It's easier to pretend this is his choice.

"Okay."

He tries not to flinch at the obvious relief.

Josh spares him a glance, a smile, briefly touches his shoulder. "Bye, Sam."

They're not supposed to end this way, he knows. If he looks back now…

He turns, and watches as Josh disappears into the crowd.

The replacement challenge [15 Oct 2003|10:37pm]

So, what're you watching instead of The West Wing this season? Choose an episode title from Angel, Jake 2.0,
The O.C. (I know, not yet, but I've heard this will be the time slot; I could be wrong) or The King of Queens.

So, we're not Bardlike either; duly noted. We'll flip. This week, use science as your guide. (It doesn't have to actually be about science, but, you know, use something at least passably science-like. Gravity. Relativity. Black holes. Genetics. Energy. The second law of thermodynamics.) Or possibly math. I'm sure there's plenty of fun to be had with calculus.

All This Time. Sam/Donna. [01 Oct 2003|12:09am]

Donna says his name like the letters themselves are revelations to her, stretched out and brightened by her smile. "It's been so long."

"Too long." He hugs her. She still smells like peaches and cinnamon; still looks like something out of a dream. It's strange seeing her after so long, now that she's gone from one of his closest friends -- and sometime lover -- to a woman he often forgets to send a Christmas card to.

"Well, we have to promise to make more time for each other."

He smiles and nods, though he doesn't believe her.

He wishes he could.
