| | 1969 - Boards of Canada - Geogaddi | ] | littleface and I have finished our first MAJOR home repair! Her shower (master bath) had sprung a leak behind the drywall at some undisclosed time and sprayed water all along the backside of the wall. We didn't find out until the rotting drywall under the showerhead started falling out in stinky chunks. To make matters worse, when I touched the shower head while inspecting the damage, the whole thing came off in my hands.
My father-in-law came over and helped us install a new pipe and drywall, but Sherri and I took this as an impetus to start our long-planned redecoration. We painted (a PRETTY PRETTY blue with "Champagne Flute" Trim), put down new tile, and installed a new faucet and pipes. All that's left now is a little clean up and a new shower curtain, and it's done!! Woohoo!
Though tonight we begin painting the living room. *nervous but excited* |

| | Wack M.C.'s - Del The Funky Homosapien - No Need for Alarm | ] | I've gone ahead and put into motion my plan to move to a group whose roles are NOT being assigned to future departments in India, and have started talking with all parties involved: my current manager, my hopefully future manager, their Manager, and the Director of ITS. Everyone seems ok to go on the project, and they've even seen fit to try and squeeze in some of the training I'm requesting before the end of this fiscal year. So, I may or may not be able to attend the conference in Monterey this summer ;n;, but now I have to scramble to find pricing for a trip at the end of this or next month to either Orlando or Colorado Springs. Whee fun! |

| | Julie and Candy - Boards of Canada - Geogaddi | ] | Mike put on a good show last night. We got there late so we never found a seat, but halfway through we found a nice spot on the side close to the stage. We drank and enjoyed a fine show (once the crapo opening act finished up) and generally enjoyed a kidless evening, just the two of us. |

| | anxious | ] | ...you learn that in ~20 months your job is moving to India.
This is bad, but there's a semi-silver lining: our Director who broke the news to us yesterday said that everything that could be done to get us trained to move to another, non-moving position would be, and vidboi12 tells me that his group (who's a lot more secure than mine) has two positions that will need to be filled in the next fiscal year. Here's hoping I can get it in gear and not have to be leaving my semi-cush job anytime soon. |

| | Venus as a Boy - Björk - Debut | ] | This makes me feel good.
For those of you just tuning in, I have a history of being stupid with money. When I was young I thought I'd never be one of those people to get into stupid amounts of credit card debt. I remember when vidboi12 and I were registering for classes at MTSU, we'd laugh at all the people signing up for credit cards to get free schwag. We just knew they'd run them up on stupid purchases and day-to-day expenses that Mom & Dad wouldn't foot the bill for. "Idiots!" thought I.
Then I got my first credit card.
Boy, it sure is easy to spend make-believe money.
This month, finances were tighter than usual. I had made some purchases I really shouldn't have, and on top of our monthly payments, it looked like the mortgage AND groceries were out of the question.
I broke down and decided to ask my parents for a little assistance. I never expected what they offered.
They paid off all our debt. ALL of it. This is a loan, not a gift, but I'm only require to pay $200 a month. We're going to pay more than that once we get our budget figured out, but this is a HUGE weight off our shoulders.
And as soon as we can get the house painted and all the small things fixed up, we're going to look to move. |

| | embarrassed | ] | I really need to get one of my semi-broken Palms working and start using it extensively. That, or have littleface pin notes to my face with things I need to do. I hate being Mr. Forgetful.
('What is is NOW?' you ask?)
Ash just called me from school, and I forgot to sign his report card (2 B's and the rest A's, btw) and send it back with him. I guess I get a field trip for lunch!
Granted, he should have remembered it. But, he is nothing if not his Father's Son... TO THE EXTREME!!! *guitar riff* |

Coworker Baby Update! |

| | relieved | ] | Jay just came in after going to a specialist. Turns out the problem isn't solely with the baby's heart, but with the whole BABY! They had been only looking at one side of the heart which looked malformed, but actually the baby has an anomoly that caused it's internal organs to be mirror-flipped. Fortunately, this makes the prognosis much better, and the baby will only have minor issues. Whew!
UPDATE @ 2:36p:: Apparently this is called "Dextrocardia with Situs Inversus." Isn't the internet a wonderful thing? |

| | sad | ] | My cube-mate Jay and his wife Rose are currently expecting their third daughter. Jay has been out the past few days for doctor's appointments, and I just got news that his coming daughter has some heart defects and only has a slight chance of survival. Please, if you have any pull with forces higher than ours, keep their family in your thoughts.
UPDATED @ 2:15p here with good news! |

| | excited | ] | Yay, ole Mike is finally coming back to Nashville! I had wanted to roadtrip down to Memphis for tonight's showing, but the other day got an email that some dates had been added to his current tour and that he'd be at 12th and Porter next month! I was able to catch all the Soul Coughing shows in the Nashville area except the last one, so I'm glad to see their old front man making good. blueyedevil, you comin'? |
