I'm making a mix tape now, I'm not sure who for, really. It's kind of for myself. It's also stuff I want to play for a friend of mine who's visiting who doesn't know yet that Sunny Day Real Estate is the best band there is. It's also directed at Deanna, the only girl I've ever loved besides my girlfriend, Katie (who's the center of my life and will probably figure in this journal a lot). I don't love her in the cheating-on-Katie way, in case my previous sentence makes me sound like a bad guy. "It's a long story", so I don't want to address it right now.
But in any case, a part of the whole big bunch of crazyness is this tape I'm making, which is my attempt to bring together all the emo I've been listening to, and make a sort of concept album of what I'm thinking about, while creating a good, coherent sound, even though emo is not the most coherent of genres. It has Sunny Day Real Estate, Jimmy Eat World, Promise Ring, Get Up Kids, and Jets to Brazil. I'll post a track listing once I'm done, and everyone can see how my musical thought process works. | 7:33 pm |
hey, here we go.... I don't know why I'm doing this. I can tell the story of how I came to it, though. I was searching on google.com to see if I could find anyone else who compared the song "I Typed for Miles" by Jets to Brazil with "Heart-Shaped Box" by Nirvana, because when I first heard it, my thought was "Hey, Jets to Brazil! Kurt Cobain awoke from his grave, and he called and said he wanted the intro to 'Heart Shaped Box back!" I wasn't the first to have the idea, as I found a couple pages that noted the similarity.
I also found someone's LiveJournal, a woman who incidentally mentioned that she was listening to the two songs I was looking for at different times during some night. She also had posted a link to a message board full of random people flashing, which is a big interest of mine, so I got drawn in. Then I thought...hey, I can make a journal too! I'll try not to post porn, unless I find an incredible outburst of true amateur exhibitionism again, in which case it will be irresistable :)
I'm figuring on posting whatever I'm thinking about, just little notes when I come up with something. I think a lot and I like to talk, so I have a good deal of material to write about. I can be self-absorbed, but I think other people's thoughts are important, if only because I think dialectically and I need their input for my own knowledge to progress (or something pseudo-intellectual like that)...so please reply to me if you feel the slightest urge :) |
