2:14 pm - In Canada
|
I'll be in Canada for almost a week, so if you post to me or email, there shan't be any replies for awhile!
I paid the $5 for the ticket. The lady laughed. I laughed, too.
The books are not at Mike's yet. Bah.
Later.

Kubla Khan Samuel Taylor Coleridge, 1798
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure-dome decree: Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea. So twice five miles of fertile ground With walls and towers were girdled round: And here were gardens bright with sinuous rills Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree; And here were forests ancient as the hills, Enfolding sunny spots of greenery. But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover! A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething, As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing, A mighty fountain momently was forced; Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail, Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail: And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever It flung up momently the sacred river. Five miles meandering with a mazy motion Through wood and dale the sacred river ran, Then reached the caverns measureless to man, And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean: And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far Ancestral voices prophesying war!
The shadow of the dome of pleasure Floated midway on the waves: Where was heard the mingled measure From the fountain and the caves. It was a miracle of rare device, A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice! A damsel with a dulcimer In a vision once I saw: It was an Abyssinian maid, And on her dulcimer she played, Singing of Mount Abora. Could I revive within me Her symphony and song, To such a deep delight 't would win me That with music loud and long, I would build that dome in air, That sunny dome! those caves of ice! And all who heard should see them there, And all should cry, Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair! Weave a circle round him thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread, For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise.

5:47 am - Getting Going
|
I am excited for Canada and hopeful that the machinery will be out on Thursday. I also have two books to read- I am going to finish The Scarlet Letter and start Like Water for Chocolate. I am reading the English version first, and then I will read Como Agua Para Chocolate (the original). But I will have to order that one.
Things may be screwed up at the cottage, but I am excited to get out of town. With work and school, I only get a few days off a month, and those are days that I request because of family obligations. The weekends are the busiest times, because I'm working doubles so that other people can request their weekends off. I'm not complaining, it's what I signed up for, but I really want to get away.
Last night my tiredness was showing through. I was writing my numbers backwards on the food storage tag (6=2), and I tried to put a little green lid on one of the big red tubs. The lid fell right inside. My speech was getting a little garbled too, which is a sure sign that I need a break.
However, before this I have to pay my ticket (grumble). And pick up Alexis. And buy my books. Not in that order. Oh, and clean. And pack. So why am I sitting here??

6:11 pm - PARKING TICKET?
|
I don't want to go to the store. But we are out of milk and good food is scarce.
I GOT A F***ING PARKING TICKET
I always keep my commuter tag on the passenger seat so I don't forget to put it up, but when my dad was driving with me he put in the cup holder. I forgot it. Now I owe $25. CAN I FIGHT THIS?
Paco, you would know best.
On top of that, I was informed by el profesor that the books for this next class will run about $125. BAH! GAH! SHNAH!

1:40 pm - She strolls out of the room

I should be working. Why do I wait?
(I decided to procrastinate.)
Mis grados no serĂ¡n buenos (My grades won't be great)
At the rate that I'm going My work shall be late.
And yet I yawn. And stare. And hesitate.
I don't have the attention span for homework right now. *strolls out of the room*

1:15 pm - I am back now
|
As some may have guessed, my internet has been out for a few days. Hence the non-responding to posts, comments and emails.
There was an incident at the cottage. The water-heater broke, flooding the first floor with 2 inches of water. All the carpeting has been pulled up, as has the linoleum. Large, loud machines are running day and night to dry the place out and remove the mold. Lesson? Sometimes being the last one to show up for vacation isn't such a bad thing.
I oughta be homeworking.

4:54 am - Good Morning, Good Morning
|
Well, I got the go ahead from mi profesor to skip the first day of class. It's not that I need permission, obviously, but it's better that the professor doesn't think I'm just skipping because I think the first day is worthless. If I were a professor that might annoy me. Ha- if I were a professor I'd give points the first day. Wow, vindictive.
Now I just need to make sure that Danielle gave me the days off that I requested. I wrote it out pretty plainly: "I need June 24-29 off, because I am going on vacation. - Pat." But who knows how she might twist it... if she tells me I can't have the days off, I don't know what I'll say. Probably that it's the only vacation I get in the summer because it's in between semesters, and my family is counting on me being there. The problem is that my vacation is during Danielle's, and she doesn't want to be missing two full-time workers for a week. Maybe the girl that complains about not getting enough hours will get what she wants... mua ha ha. Vindictive.

3:39 am - Before Work
|
6:00am is not an appropriate rising time for a Saturday. But at least I have the house to myself, and no one is interrupting my morning routine.
It wouldn't be that hard if I were only working one shift. But I'm working two and a half. Tomorrow starts an hour later, but it's the same deal. So all I feel like doing is dragging my feet. Draaaaaaaaag... draaaaaaaaag... I should probably just count myself lucky if this stomachache stays away.
Wow, this has been a mopey update. I guess I don't do perkiness until 7.

4:45 am - Spanish Dictionary
|
I've got to work on my homework this weekend. If I can finish it before Monday, then I can sleep in on Monday. That is the next day where sleeping past 7 is a possibility for me, and I'd like to take advantage of it...
I need to buy another Spanish dictionary. And those are very expensive. But my teacher has picked up on the fact that I write my essays without a dictionary, and that's not cool.
I have to go. My mom is here eating her breakfast, and I can't stand to listen to people eat in the morning. Call me cranky.

5:24 am - Warm Season
|
The warm season is upon us at last. It's back to the days of getting up extra early to enjoy the coolest hours of the day. I can handle the heat at home better than at work; if given a choice, I'd forego air conditioning here. (Though I'm not given a choice, we just don't have any.) But when working at the home, inside in the heat, next to the ovens and running around the dining room, I get dizzy and sick. Most of the time we have the A/C on, but not while the residents are in the dining room. Although that may have to be changed soon.
A resident passed away. She was a really nice lady. But not one meal had passed since she died when another woman at her table took over her seat. She just moved her cushion over and sat down. I don't know if that's what I would have done. Actually, I'm fairly certain it isn't. Ah well. Time to do homework before class.

8:56 am - Anniversary Party
|
We had an anniversary party at work. That meant I got to wear shorts.
Mabel: Your legs are so cute! I bet you've had those for a long time!
Me: All my life, Mabel.
Mabel: Well, hold on to them!
I think my paleness gives many people the illusion that I never go outside. People see pale and think unhealthy. I see pale and think "successful use of sunblock." But I guess I'm in the minority there.

9:04 pm - Graduation Attending
|
Ay ay ay. Another sibling graduated.
Graduation speeches are notoriously boring, and these were no exception. The president's speech was good, but the administrators' needed help. If I am ever called upon to give a commencement speech, it will be much better.
I also saw some old teachers, and that was nice.
I'm going to watch the rest of "Aquateen Hunger Force" before going to bed.
PS: The third Harry Potter movie is good, but I feel that too many liberties were taken toward the end. Ah well.

4:45 am - Weird Dream
|
Man, what a weird dream. It was all over the place. At one point I'm somewhere up north, in a cabin with some family members and friends. Then I found out that Grace was there, but she had had her leg cut off earlier, and had a prosthetic one until the surgery that would attach the real one. And the man who had cut it off was on the loose somewhere in the small town, waiting to kill someone. Meanwhile, back at the bar I'm sitting with some of my friends (Alexis and Veronika), and I look over to see my brother with his friends, about to order a really strong drink. I asked them if they had a designated driver, and they shrugged it off and looked at me like I was some sort of killjoy.
Oh, and when we got home Maureen was living across the street. She was letting Abby cross the street by herself, which I did not approve of, so I had to watch her when she crossed the street to go back home.
Oh, and I work a double today, and I don't wanna.
