I hugged my ex boyfriend for the first time in about a year yesterday. I realised that his chin didn't clear my shoulders at all, and we were both standing up straight in bare feet. I dated the guy for 2 years, don't you think this would have been apparent on our first date? When I was 15 and aware of this kind of thing? He's been telling me about this girl he's into, and it makes me a little sad. She's 4'11", maybe. She's totally different from me in every possible way, but the height thing really bugs me. I've only ever dated shorter guys. Or guys that are just exactly even with my height. I don't really even know any taller guys, so I guess it's just an availability thing. I'd really like to look up into somebody's eyes for once. Not that it really matters, like Brian (ex-boyfriend guy) said. "It doesn't really matter when you're laying down." Heh. But I date them because they are the only ones I've been attracted to, mentally and physically. Most of the taller guys I know just don't "do it" for me. So, my question for the tall women and men of LJ is: Do you date in your height range? Is it out of comfort or physical attraction? PS: I went to the doctor last week and the nurse measured me at 5'11". I turned to her and said "Lady, I haven't been 5'11" in 4 years. Don't I fucking wish?" She also weighed me at 101 pounds. If I were 101 I'd dissapear. I thought it was funny. She couldn't have been taller than 5'3" and here she was telling me that I was 5'11" like her life depended on it. I asked my actual doctor (another tall woman herself) to remeasure me, and I'm "six foot one and three quaters" and 128 pounds. Short people amuse me. |

Hi, My Name's Stacy and I'm 14 and I'm 5 foot 10 inches. My mom's 5'11 and my dad's 6'2. Yeh so I might get taller, but oh well BRING IT ON! lol. I was reading the info before I joined and it said < tired of people asking you if you play basketball> I do play basketball actually lol. Another good sport I'd suggest if your tall is Volleyball. OK well that's a little bit about me. I hope it's ok that I just joined like this. I'm excited to be in this community and I hope to make a lot of new friends! ::smiles::

Hi! My name is Kelley, and I am almost 27. I am 5'11", and I still have those awkward moments when I am around people who are way shorter than me. However, as I have gotten older, I have learned to enjoy my height, too. I love getting clothes from Express or Lerner's or Gap. I always buy the low rise flare style--they seem to fit my hips really well--nothing ever fits my waist. I am a size 4L, and these stores have never failed me when it comes to finding the perfect pair of jeans. Now, if anyone can tell me where to find t-shirts that are longer, that would be awesome!!! I am not one to show off my belly, so with the low rise jeans I need the longer shirts. Thanks!

hey everyone im 16 im 5'8 (possibly 5'9 i'm not sure cause i try to check as little as possible) and i have a really big issue with being as tall as i am. i hate it so much. its extra annoying b/c all my friends that are girls are all small and cute and petite and i look like a giant walking next to them. its so annoying and i'm as tall as most guys which really bothers me cause i like taller guys for some reason. and my biggest pet peeve is when people say "you're so tall! you should be a model". first off, yes im tall...i realized that awhile ago. second, no i shouldn't model for various reasons. one being i like to eat every once in awhile and another being you can't just be tall and that qualifies you as a model. you're short, do you desire to become a garden knome? and my last complant will be when people say "clothes look better on tall people" because i feel like that's a lie. i don't feel like clothes look better on me then my shorter friends. i dunno maybe its just me. sorry this was a bit of rant. its just i don't have a lot of people to rant to about being tall who would actually understand... |

Hello. So I'm Keri. 5'8, which isn't the tallest i know... but still tall enough when all your friends are pretty short :p To the girls, does your height stop you from wearing heels? I very rarely wear heels, loving my trainers and so on, but i have the thing where i only like heels if they are about 4", heh, so on the odd occasion i do wear them i feel huge =p (altho if you wear them with a skirt I feel better because tall = long legs = good) Also, do you find it a problem when you like guys that are really short? Especially on nights out when you wear heels and he becomes like a midget? Just curious. |

Someone posted a few days ago in here about being tall and being told you should model. Good to hear I'm not the only one who finds this annoying as hell! I mean sure, it's nice to be told you're attractive, but the modeling thing is just scary. When I was in high school I had a friend recommend that I visit a modeling school she was in. She said they were always looking for tall girls. I'd been approached by people in malls before advertising agencies but I didn't take them seriously, because it's people in malls. Anyway I went to this place and was shocked... they wanted thousands of dollars for classes, plus portfolio costs. It was like paying for college, only crappier because what do you get? A certificate that says you can walk right? And then where are the jobs? There's so much competition, so many people who want desperatly to be models, why is it worth fighting for? When someone can sing well, everyone compliments them but hardly anyone goes up and says, "You should try to sign a deal with a major record label!" Everyone is aware of how tough it is and how hard you have to work to get an album made. Heck, when I wanted to be a web designer, I was surrounded by people telling me it was a flooded market and I'd never succeed. A web designer! But be tall, and suddenly the world feels cool saying, "You should really try to model. No really, you should. No really, go do it now, I can't believe you've never tried before." They have no idea what they're actually suggesting. The modeling industry is a sick twisted place, and they're saying we should work to break into it. Freaking scary if you ask me. Sorry to rant on about it, but it's one of those things. |

Well, someone said "make a shirt and I'll buy it!" So I did. :) Tall person shirts here! A much better view of the back. They are very customizable so if you see something about them you don't like just let me know and I'll see if I can change it. Also, if you would like to see something that is not currently offered just let me know, there are several other types of shirts and things available. I will also be working on other designs if response is positive. (My email address is yolandazamboni@hotmail.com). :D ***Edit: I have decided that if these sell well enough to make a few bucks that I will donate the proceeds to The National Marfan Foundation which provides education and support for families who are coping with Marfan Syndrome. |

Hi Folks. I was just wondering, what are the most common questions and comments you get regarding your height and what are your responses?

Top 10 Ways To Tell You're Tall 10. "One size fits all" doesn't include you. 9. Strangers think nothing of walking up to you on the street to ask how tall you are. 8. If you sat in a Mazda Miata, you'd look like a happy meal toy. 7. You can use the average hotel room shower to keep your belly button sparkling clean. 6. You've had some unpleasant encounters with ceiling fans. 5. You're really, really careful around slings and people named David. 4. You have to try on cars to see if they fit. 3. When flying coach, you try to free your mind from your cramped body by fantasizing about what you'd do if the SOB who placed these seats four inches apart was within reach. 2. You're in the back row of every group picture. 1. You're thinking of getting a T-shirt that reads "No, I don't play basketball. Do you play miniature golf?" |

Hi, I'm new. I'm nearly 6'2" and I hate people feeling sorry for me for it. I also hate being told I should model. Yeah, well. You're fat. Go be a spokesperson for donuts. (Sorry that was mean. But that's what I said to my grandmother.) Just thought I'd say that I am very glad there's more tall girls out there. |

So I met a friend of a friend for the first time last night. She looked up at me and stated "You're tall." I replied, "Oh, I thought you were short." She giggled her head off. Haha, oh well. |

Hi, I'm Heather from Leeds, England. I'm 6'0" and have just found this community. What annoys me most about being tall is being stared at - people tend to do a kind of double-take and then look up slowly... I don't always notice this happening but my boyfriend and friends say it happens all the time. Also, fixed shower heads in public swimming baths - they are always at least a foot too low and you either have to stoop down or bend your neck to one side - ouch! I don't get as many comments about my height as I used to when I was at school (the most common one being "you're tall" - stating the obvious). I'm now a teacher and have noticed that children are very polite about it and almost never say anything! I'm sure they're not that nice to each other. Maybe they're just scared of me... I mostly get my clothes from Topshop and Dorothy Perkins, who both do nice clothes in their Tall ranges. Anyone else here from the UK? |

Just joined, for almost no reason. I'm really not that tall. I'm only 5' 6". But I'm taller than half my family, and most of my "friends". Tall people rock. Short people are stupid and easy to step on. =) I feel weird posting in here, considering everyone is at least 4 inches taller and at least 4 years older. But oh well. =\ I don't care. Tall people still rock. =D |

its funny, a few months ago everyone was saying "ur that tall and u can;t dunk!" and giving me a really hard time and now if i dunk they all say "well we're not all 6 foot bastards" because they figure they r going to try to dunk ("look at me, if i jump my very best i can skim the rim with my middle finger"). its funny how when u can;t do something u stick out like a sore thumb but when u can it means nothing because u r so tall....

Hey all... I've been trying to go back and read some entries and add some entries to our memories, especially if they're about clothes. I know as a tall person that's one of the biggest issues... I mean sure we deal with weird comments and dating short people but that's stuff we can deal with, right? Not having clothes to wear is another issue entirely! I think it'd be cool if more people posted reviews of stores or even outfits. Seriously. If you buy a suit or a shirt or anything that fits really well, tell us about it and where you got it. I think all of us have bought stuff at one time or another that kinda almost fit okay, so we went with it because even okay-fitting stuff is a rare fine. Tell us what you like and don't like about the stuff you're wearing and places you're shopping. I can't believe how much this community has grown lately, you all rock! If anyone has suggestions, feel free to let me know. |

hi, i stumbled across this group while surfing the internet and decided to join...i'm a 16 year old girl and 5"11 (wish i was 6" though lol)- i'm one of the tallest in my year group, and yes, i know what it's like to be told "you should play basketball" (i suck at it, but thanks for pointing that out!), "wow, you're tall!" (that would be every single relative and friend i know) and sometimes (the one i like most hehe) "you should be i model"- but i haven't really taken to any of these suggestions...although, it's not the worst thing- but it does get a bit repetetive...just because they all want to be tall like us!!! i reckon we've got it pretty good- you can see over ppl in crowds, and instead of the pain craning your neck up at ppl, you can rest ur eyes on their heads :-P the only problem for me is finding a guy tall enough, who is actually good looking and all the rest of it! anyone else find that frustrating???!!!! anyways, i'm starting to blab on a bit...might post later if i get time! bye!

Alright, so i'm not as tall as most people in here, but compared to everyone my age that i know, im pretty damn tall... i'm turning 16 in 8 days, and i'm 5'10" 105 lbs. I have a pretty funny story to open up my membership to this wonderful community. So i'm at a movie theater with my friend, and we leave the theater and are walking outside, and this woman comes up with a clip board and asks me if i would like to do some survey thing related to an election. I tell her i'm only 15 and she says "Wow, they grow 'em big!" Man. I am so tired of being 'the tall girl'. Anyone else have some funny stories about their height? post em, cuz this is a pretty lame first post. sorry.
