News Monday Apr 19 - Rarely is hypocrisy shown more clearly than it was today in this article about Senator Kerry. Folks who want to raise our taxes always say its a "moral" decision and we should want to pay more for "public servces" and yet when given the opportunity to pay more they always decline. All the PR about Metro Nashville schools and police cuts are typical tactics to soften up taxpayers....get your crying towels ready because you ain't heard nuttin yet. Before the dust clears in '05 they will convince you that the world is coming to an end and unless you fork over a tax increase you might as well just hang a sign around your neck that says, "Kick me!! I am a greedy taxpayer who doesn't care about kids and runaway crime." News Friday Apr 2 - People who work for government are public servants who work for us. They spend our money and enforce laws that have a profound affect on our lives. So they should see us as their employers and be accountable to us?? Sounds pretty straightforward....then why is a former IRS trial lawyer saying that "Fear of the audit is important," said Levy, the former IRS attorney. "It's like the police. They're not at every intersection, but the fear they might be keeps people from running red lights." The votes will now be recorded as "yes" unless the member specifically asked to be changed to "no" and they will NOT be posted on the internet. Its a bit of progress but the fight will continue for full disclosure since it is OUR government and OUR money. News Tuesday Jan 27 - Thanks to Anita Spence, who rallied taxpayers, there will be NO WHEEL TAX for Decatur County!!! The county commission failed to muster the 2/3 majority needed to pass the resolution. The highlight of the night was when a citizen asked the commissioners why this wheel tax proposal wasn't put before the citizens for a vote like the previous two proposals which both failed?
