MILLSTONES I fervently pray that this is the result of a horrible misunderstanding or some kind of an accident. Because there is a special torment in hell reserved for anyone who would intentionally do something this vile:
Authorities appealed to the public to identify an abandoned 3-year-old girl who says her name is Courtney, she's from Brooklyn and she wants her mommy.
The little girl was found May 5 when the father dropped her off with a stranger at an unknown location in Baltimore, Sue Fitzsimmons, a spokeswoman for the city Department of Social Services, said Monday. He said he was leaving to cash a money order, but he never returned and the stranger called police.
At Monday's news conference, Courtney played with toys and posed for pictures wearing a black-and-white summer outfit, her hair in neat cornrows.
When a reporter asked her a question, she wept and said: "I want my mommy."
With that, Fitzsimmons picked her up, and the news conference ended.

We're living in a dark age, brethren.
All the more reason we should pray that the God of peace protect this child in Jesus, who suffered not the little children to come unto him.

My eldest, Madeleine, turns three in September. She is, as Courtney and all children are, a gift from the hands of God.
The contributor of half of Courtney's chromosomes (I will not use the term "father") would not want to find me and a tire iron blocking his only exit from a dark alley.

I'm not all that familiar with scripture, but it occurs to me (correct me if I missed something) that the only time Jesus specified a punishment, it was for messing with kids.

And where IS her mother? If one of my children had gone missing at that age I would have been on the horn to 911 immediately. And if she'd turned up in another city like that I'd have gone to get her in as soon as it was humanly possible to get there.
As for Sperm Donor Dad, he sounds like he's no loss at all.

Please, someone, tell me that the child's mother has been found. As much as I thought such things were reprehensible before I had my daughter, the reality of knowing her personally, and knowing how vulnerable she is, makes this kind of story even more painful to me.

There's an article in today's (Friday's) Chicago Sun-Times that the girl's mother has been found and the two have been reunited.
ON THE OTHER HAND...the woman was also quoted as saying that her husband had abducted the child *two years ago*. A child who hadn't seen her mother since infancy wouldn't even remember her. So - is the mother lying? When the child says ``mommy'' does she mean one of Dad's subsequent girlfriends? Curiouser and curiouser....
