I went to Vilnius in early April 2002. Visiting my friend Laura, I got to see a lot of interesting places in this old and beautiful capital of Lithuania. Going in early spring, it was still pretty cold and for some time it was even snowing.

There are convenient direct flights available from Frankfurt. Flying time is a little less than two hours. The Vilnius airport is modern with a pretty unique arrival hall. You can and should exchange foreign currency to the local Litas before leaving the airport. When getting a taxi to town, the driver might try to negotiate a price for the trip that is above of what you would have to pay if the meter is running. An average fair from the airport to town should not cost more than 20 Litas.

Tourist hotels are nice and reasonably priced. Most hotels can be booked online without any problems. Check Lithuanian Hotels for details. Service is usually very friendly and a lot of people speak or at least understand English and German.
