Summer in the city

Posted 1 day, 20 hours ago

June is in its middle and the city becomes more and more hot. I can’t say I like sweltering heat; even more I do hate when it’s more than 20 Celsius degrees outside (about 68 fahrenheits for all Saxon folks). I think I that e.g. British climate would perfectly suit me. Polish summers are extremely hot — temperature in downtown area can sometimes exceed 50 centidegrees. Unless one is comfortably basking on Mallorca’s beach, this is hard to bear.

However there are few places in Warsaw that are worth visiting during summer. Botanical Garden in Powsin is one that should be listed. It is one of the largest objects of that kind in Europe (I suppose, this information is unchecked and unconfirmed, anyone can verify this?); located nearby Kabacki Forest, in Warsaw suburban area, the Garden is a destination of Varsovians’ weekend jaunts. We haven’t been there yet this year but I think we’ll go there this weekend.

The second place worth visiting during late spring/early summer is the Library of Warsaw University and particularly gardens located on the roof of the building. Gardens and stunnigly beautiful: there are exotic plants set along neatly designed alleys. Good destination for an Sunday after-lunch walk.

Still, on workdays the city is hot and one has to wear a suit, a shirt and firmly tied cravat. Not very comfortable if you ask me. But then again, tomorrow a four-day weekend has its beginning (there’s corpus christi on Thursday and the following Friday is a day-off). We’re planning to perform one or two bike trips around Warsaw and maybe we pop into Powin’s gardens.

Honeymoon

Posted 3 days, 20 hours ago

Ola asked to me to find a pleasant place to spend our honeymoon. If you ask me, I am not that kind of sporty guy (I attend to sport gym and go biking sometimes) and my favourite way of spending free time is leasuring, drinking well-chilled Pilsener and doing nothing. I guess I am stay-at-home type as it sometimes really bothers me if I am asked to wander somewhere beyond the regions I am familiarized with. But then again, honeymoon is a honeymoon and there’s just one in man’s life so it is really worth celebrating and the “trip effort”.

Now I am facing the problem of chosing a proper location — not only the country should be located in the warm regions of the globe but also the trip should not cost a fortune. This limits us not only to Europe but also to those lands that are not considered as expensive (example: we won’t go, presumably, to Canarian Islands).

So far I’ve chosen two destinations to which travel we can afford. The first one is Bulgaria, patricularly to Golden Sands region, a unique combination of a calm and warm sea, wooded slopes descending to a beach, covered with fine golden sand, and mineral springs. Defintely this would be a nice place to spend a honeymoon at — beaches, sun and fruit drinks, no rush at last for two weeks. Also going to Bulgaria should not ruin our budget as the stay costs less than 200 euros per person.

My second choice is Greece but I am not that convinced about this one at all — not only there’re Olypmic Games to be held during this summer but also it’ll cost much more (mind you, I am not a muckworm, only trying to be reasonable). I’ve been to Greece once I did like it; I am not sure, however, whether this is a good idea.

We also have been invited to Edinburgh — Ola’s uncle lives there and he and his adorable wife were so nice to ask us to come and visit them. This wouldn’t be “classical” honeymoon; but both of them were so lovely and nice to us that it’s really worth considering. If you ask me, I’d go for that one :-)

Whatever follows, we’re going to have a unforgetable vacation. Not only we shall go to a lovely place but also due to the fact we spend them together :-)

Wedding presents and one photo

Posted 1 week ago

Hereby I present one of our wedding photos. Ola is the bride, and I am the groom. Don’t bother about the rice in my hair. Also, on the picture there is a bridesmaid and my best man.

Ola, her bridesmaid, my bestman and me

It seems that we get full of wedding presents which is so nice of our dear guests. The list is kind of long but in case you’re interested I’ve provided it and added few comments of mine to each entry:

  • Camera — a great Canon Rebel TI with lenses. Functionally it is an equivalent of a well-known Canon EOS 300V; American however tend to name products in their own manner. It was handed to us my one of Ola’s numerous aunts - Christine. Ola mailed her to bought us a camera for which we wished to give money back. The aunt was so nice, however, to present it to us and refused to accept any money.
  • Towels and two sets of bed-clothes among which one is a red-coloured satin one, yummy. We have a perfect “just-married” bed.
  • An electric kettle and set of cutlery. Kettle is kind of broken as it can’t be turned off manually and one has to unplug it from the socket; cutlery is particularly nice as it is designed in a plain and simple way.
  • A lovely painting drawn by Ola’s cousin. There is a stylish cul-de-sac on the picture and it perfectly fits our living room’s style.
  • Two box of chocolates and red wine. One of boxes were presented to us by Joonas — candies he gave us are very sweet and very chocolate and I can’t help myself of eating them during cooking (I have to move them back a little as they’re within my grasp — not so good)
  • A plateau to keep vegetables/fruits on. Also a funny thingie to store napkins
  • Printed issues of corewar gazette sent to me by John. What a surprise! :-)
  • An iron for Ola so she can now iron my shirts :-P
  • A lovely flowerpot that Ola’s friend given us. Plain and simple, my favourite style, in white color. Adorable.
  • A bath-tub and two buckets full of flowers.

Wow, this list is long. Heart-felt thank yous, dear friends.

We’ve also received, erm, more financial backup but a public weblog is not a place to announce that kind of things.

My wife and me

Posted 1 week, 3 days ago

Now we are truly together, now and forever.

They say the wedding was beautiful; they say we looked gorgeous and make a wonderful couple; they say the party was great and a crackejack.

I am so in high spirits right now, I think I couldn’t be happier. The moment when I heard “I oath you love, faithfulness and that only death can set us apart” I will remember till the end of my days. In fact, taking into consideration it’s hard to express the way I felt for the whole day, I really can’t expect myself to describe precisely my feelings in this particular moment. I’ll leave it alone, then, hoping that all of my readers can understand the maw which divides words from the feelings.

However, if I were to desribe it anyway, one word comes to my mind: the whole day was splendind. From the begining till its very end. It all started at 6 a.m. when I was waken up by a ringing mobile; when I looked with my sleepy and crusty eyes, I noticed that the calling number was so long it could only be a long distance call. To my surprise, it was not John, but Joonas himself who — in a very polite manner — asked me whether I would mind if he came to Warsaw to my wedding. It left me speechless for a moment (I really was flabbergasted) but still it was so nice and flattering I only could reply “No, not at all”. Joonas took a morning flight to Warsaw. This could only be an evidence for that the day will be full of amazing albeit wonderful events. I couldn’t be any closer to the truth. Rest of the morning was spent on visiting barber, getting prepared for a wedding and guiding Joonas :-).

Then I drove down to Ola’s place. And, without any exaggeration, it really took my breath away when I saw here. She looked gorgeous, least to say (pictures that await to be published will only second this fact). We took few photos and go by car to a church. The church was full of people — I’ve never expected so many of folk to come to our wedding (it was one of these wonderful events). The whole ceremony was very special, priest was amusing and making jokes all the time (he must have realized that we were all nerves). The wedding was something I will remember forever.

After wedding there was a party (to which Joonas was, obviously, invited). Still, I have few ambigious feelings about the party: there was a lot of elder people who sat all the time by the table and left the party before the midnight. But then again, they all were so enormously nice and pleasant, just to adore. And I really appreciate the fact they attended so numerously. There were dances, and play, and food, and photos, and many other things I can’t memorize at the moment. Ola looked splending and was a reall queen of the ball. She is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. It all ended at 2 a.m. when I was dog-tired and wanted to go home.

Now, I have a ring on my finger and couldn’t be happier. We have a place to live in and look brightly into the future. I am a husband and Ola is my wife and this relation I really do fancy.

I’d like to thank all of you for your wishes; it was so amiable. Special thanks go to Joonas who travelled that far just to be on our wedding. Still, I think, on the other hand, he had quite a good time, hadn’t you, Joonas? :-)

Wedding

Blogging will be suspended for a while. On Saturday I am getting married and all preparations consume my time completely and totally. More news to come after the ceremony, obviously, so please be patient.

Update: I am very happy, least to say. There’re no words I could express the way I feel in. All that happens and that will soon happen is beyond my perception; I think this Saturday will be most important day in my life — not only the past one but also the one that is to come.

Update 2: suspended is not the right word — I am going to provide you with a short entry on Monday and maybe, as my activities allow me to do so, tomorrow or day after tomorrow. Stay tuned.
