The usual neuroses So I was back in at The Possible Internship Place for the morning and early afternoon (until I had to leave for the reading of Caligula...you heard me, a musical about Caligula). I had a fine time, and they seemed to like me and like what I was doing (some copying and data entry), and the position would be perfect for me. So, of course, I'm deathly frightened that it won't pan out. They have no good reason not to offer me a position, but that's never stopped anyone before. The positions that I have gotten in the past were all flukes - Avenue Q came because I begged Jeff, Harmony was practically accidental (I had applied for a different job entirely), and TheaterMania I only even found out about because I happened to run into Peter Filichia at Tonight We Sing back in September. I'm not going to find out whether or not they want me until after they find someone to fill the currently vacant paying job, and I have no idea how long that's going to be. I also have no idea whether or not that person will have any bearing on my hiring. I know that one of the candidates is someone that I know, and that would bode well for me, but only if that person is chosen (and probably won't be). Such is my life. Match this afternoon, Bare this evening - gotta catch them before they close, this weekend and next week respectively. Apparently hanging out with mattsachs, natbudin, and claireon on Thursday. Whoo-hah. (10 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | Friday, May 14th, 2004 | 11:45 pm |
My world has been shattered. After only two weeks of marriage, Slater and the Doritos Girl have split up. (14 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | 12:26 am |
Out of Context Theatre Me: "Ah, finally, now I can pull this out of my pants." (4 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | Thursday, May 13th, 2004 | 1:35 am |
And so to bed. Early, yes, but I have what might be interpreted as an internship interview of sorts at 10 AM (your average interview doesn't last two hours, but this isn't your average interview), after which I'm helping out at a reading of Einstein's Dreams, after which I'm going to a reading at the York (attn. Barricade Sluts: Graham Rowat is in it).
No spilling about the internship, other than to say that, if it pans out, it's going to be very, very exciting for me. (16 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | Wednesday, May 12th, 2004 | 12:51 pm |

The article doesn't tell the full story. Krakowski May Be Hitchcock Blonde for B'way It's a really terrific play (I've read it), but there are other reasons why this is pretty damned exciting. Like, say, the extensive nudity the role requires. I'll get there first preview before they cut it. (5 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | Monday, May 10th, 2004 | 2:30 am |
Meant to mention this earlier It amuses me to no end that the ensemble of Bye Bye Birdie at Encores! included both Brian O'Brien and Brad Bradley.
Too bad George W. George wasn't involved somehow. (8 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | Sunday, May 9th, 2004 | 7:25 pm |
I'm surprised the little bugger lasted this long. The left foot of the little styrofoam Mike Wazowski that's been sitting on my monitor tray for nearly three years just fell off.
He's still sitting there, though, foot by his side, along with a little Ultraman pencil topper and a tiny magnetic Hogarth Hughes.
(And if you don't know who Hogarth Hughes is without having to do a web search, we can't be friends anymore.) (10 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | 12:27 pm |
Waitasec... ...Judy Reyes is in Guinea Pig Solo? Fuck, that means I have to see it.
Damn you, Scrubs! Damn you for making me love you so much! (8 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | Friday, May 7th, 2004 | 12:45 pm |
Let this be a warning: The next person to write an article about Raul Esparza and title it "Meeting Raul" will be personally beaten senseless by me.
It was amusing the first time. Twenty-odd times later, it has all the comedy of a forest fire. (And not a funny forest fire, either - your average, everyday unpleasant forest fire.) (5 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | Tuesday, May 4th, 2004 | 11:50 pm |

Sometimes, I actually stick to one of my resolutions. Like, for example, the fact that I joined a gym today. There's a New York Sports Club about ten minutes from my house, so I went over, took the tour, and signed up. Now I don't have any excuse not to exercise. I took the scenic route home, by which I mean that I took a different exit than I should have, ended up stuck for 25 minutes in an unexplained jam, then ended up taking another wrong exit which landed me very much in the wrong place. Made it home eventually, although what should have been a ten minutes drive lasted nearly an hour. I applied, once again, at Barnes & Noble yesterday. I'm still hoping that something theatrical will pop up, but I'm losing faith - at least I could be getting an employee discount, right? Aida is closing on September 5th, to make way for La Cage aux Folles. westernactor, will you be throwing a party? ;) I have a sudden, inexplicable urge to play video games. Beats me why. Unfortunately, i have too many things that need to get done to be able to drag one of my consoles up from the basement. Alas. Thanks, as usual, to BoingBoing. Frightfully hilarious MIT interview with Jack Valenti, one of this world's less pleasant people. (4 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | 3:07 pm |

The not-so-dirty details In business parlance, "my position was eliminated."
In actual terms, a different TM part-timer, who's been there longer than I had been, wanted to come on full-time and move into editorial, so I got the boot. That, coupled with the fact that, with summer coming up, they can get free or super-cheap interns, rather than paying me as much as they had been (which, for the record, was a luxurious $7/hour).
Rather than stick around and be the typing dead, I left effective Tuesday; after a noon meeting with Michael and the bigwigs, I left and hung out at the York for the rest of the day.
To answer several people's questions - to my knowledge, there is nothing wrong behind the scenes at TM.
There. Now I can get back to blogging the good things. Not to mention looking for a job. (7 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) | Tuesday, April 27th, 2004 | 3:09 pm |

Moment from this afternoon that will amuse only me, freakymartian, and maybe one or two other people. Kristen Anderson-Lopez: "Hey, Seth, do you know Jim Morgan?" (4 Promises of the morning | Say something funny) |
