It is entirely the fault of that fucking Six Flags commercial that I iTunes-ed the Vengaboys' "We Like To Party" last night. And cannot seem to stop playing it.

I think somebody secretly replaced my brain with Folgers Crystals.

Yesterday I picked up a used copy of the out-of-print album Bang! by World Party, and I think it's possibly one of the most wonderful things I've ever heard.

I have these periods of musical ennui where I manage to convince myself that I've already discovered everything cool there is to hear, and maybe I should try silence for a while -- until I miss my stale favorites or something new and worthwhile finally crosses the horizon. Then I'll catch a whiff of something like this... in this case, XM 54 played "Is It Like Today" a couple of times, a song that's been around for more than ten years and that I've somehow managed to miss up to now... and I realize that there's cool shit out there that I never even dreamed of, and that's been waiting a long time for me to stumble upon it.

[An egocentric view of popular music, perhaps, but it's my party. It gets moreso further down.]

I'm repeating these uncredited from a message board elsewhere, and intend to spend tomorrow thinking up ones of my own.
