HUD's Homeownership Scam
Today HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson is in Baltimore to kick off National Homeownership Month and announce the American Dream Down-Payment Initiative, a program to provide down-payment assistance to people buying their first home. But the White House waited a year to send the American Dream Down-Payment Initiative to Congress after announcing it with much fanfare and it waited until yesterday to actually start using the $75 million that Congress approved for the program.
Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said: “For all its talk about making it easier for people to buy their own homes, the Bush Administration has pursued one policy after another to undermine affordable housing and homeownership in the United States. Today’s event is just another example of the White House’s token support for an issue the President touts on the campaign trail.”
