The Bush Record on the APIA Community: Neglect
President Bush likes to call himself a uniter, but apparently his rhetoric doesn't include Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. Harassment of APIA community members continues in the aftermath of September 11 because of Bush's neglect of hate crimes legislation and his Justice Department's trampling of civil rights. And because Asian Americans tend to live in regions most affected by Bush's poor economy, APIA unemployment. Bush's response? He disbanded the White House Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
DNC News
Joint Task Force: "It is unbelievable that President Bush can speak on health care and the uninsured and not speak truthfully about his unwillingness to help minority communities who have and continue to suffer under his presidency. Since George Bush has taken office, health care costs have skyrocketed. American families are paying 49% more than they did four years ago."
