MANKATO, Minn. -- Minnesota State, Mankato, head football coach Clarence Holley resigned after two seasons, the school announced Friday.

The Mavericks were 4-18 under Holley, who said in a statement that he was leaving for another opportunity and that he had reconsidered the impact coaching has had on his family.

"I just decided this is the right thing to do," he said.

The school will search nationally for a new head coach. The Mavericks' season begins Aug. 26.

Athletics Director Kevin Buisman praised Holley, saying he "was a positive influence and a difference maker for many of the student-athletes in his program."

Holley coached two All-Americans at Minnesota State -- defensive lineman Andrew Tippins and defensive back Jared Ziemke.

Before coming to Minnesota State, Holley led Arkansas-Monticello to a 17-16 record in three years as the Boll Weevils head coach.
