Stifled uses

John McDonough:

Hi, I’m John McDonough, founder of Timeless Video Alternatives International. For over 20 years, I’ve preserved and distributed old movies and television shows that are in the public domain. Copyright restoration has severely harmed my business. Before § 514 went into effect, I had a selection of foreign works that were in the public domain. I offered these movies for sale at reasonable prices to the public specifically because they were in the public domain. But now I can no longer. My business is hurt, and so too is the viewing public.

Paul Adair:

I've considered an oldies and classics theatre
using video projection and public domain movies
to include cartoons, serials, etc.
It'd be smallish 100 - 150 seats or so. Minimal
concession, mostly vending machines. Then about
a third of the product "vanished", cheating the
public and myself. Let me recommend Lawrence
Lessig's book "FREE CULTURE--" and if you can
find it, James B. Twitchell's "CARNIVAL CULTURE-
the trashing of taste in America".
