Online Dating Industry Revenues
2001: USD 72 million
2002: USD 313 million
2003: to be published
2004: to be earned :)
“Online dating sites attract about 20% of the Internet population, and Jupiter Research predicts huge growth. Last year Jupiter estimated that 17.2 million people viewed online personals and 2.5 million of them paid for online ads. In 2006, Jupiter predicts, 27.4 million will
view online personals and 5.2 million will pay for ads.”
Jupiter Research expects online dating sites to continue to grow from US$313 million in revenue in 2002 to an estimated $642 million by 2007 - over 100%.
“In fact, the popularity of online dating allowed service providers to reap an estimated US$313 million in revenue in 2002, according to Jupiter Research, and is expected to continue to bloom, raking in an estimated $642 million by 2007.”
“Over 16.3 million people visited online personals sites during 2002, according to Jupiter Research, and as the medium becomes more socially acceptable, that number is expected to grow.”
As crazy as may sound, there are some secrets to succes in dating. Some call this the 4-step formula, I personally don't know if it works in all cases but it doesn't hurt to give it a try:
Here are the 4 steps to make a person(to be read: 'a woman') want something (to be read 'someone'):
1) Create a challenge.
2) Give her a little, then lean back.
3) Give her the gift of missing you.
4) Be unpredictable.
I had the flu this week, so I couldn't blog. However, I learned something important from this flu: It's very important to have someone to take care of you in times of trouble. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my girlfriend for all the hot soups&teas;&love; that have made me healthy again.
Back in business:)
You think that in dating you dont need credentials? Think again. It seems like, the latest trend in womanity being the focus on career, that they're taking dating to a new level: Dating only men whose credentials meet the standards. Flunked college? Get out of here:)
It seems like we men need to embrace knowledge and higher education if we ever want to embrace a smart woman again. (I don't know if you noticed, but we, at Creative Weblogging, have some very interesting blogs about Universities, both online and offline;)

One of the best paths one should follow is socializing. Meet as many people as you can, make yourself pleasurable.Networking is probably a word you hear a lot while on the internet. No matter what you do, networking is great because of it acting like a source of information and also a filter in everything you do. Whether you're looking for a job, or for a date, or for an used car, your friends and you're friends' friends are a grear source of filtered information.
Why filtered? Because you and you friends resemble in some ways and that can be applied even to information sharing.
Why online, then?
Just heard of this. I'm investigating. Maybe I'll come up with an all-time top ten sites that lead to the most marriages born online:) For me, 2500 is a big number, but for all those users thy're supposed to have....
You're right. What does this have to do with online dating? After all, people use dating sites in order to date, and not for getting married. And that's how it should be, after all...
Anyway, 2500 mariages...
Still worried about online dating safety after reading my articleon that? Search no more. I have the solution for you. It's called TrueBeginnings and it is an online dating site that "screens members against the nation's largest criminal record database containing more than 160 million unique criminal records from more than 110 state and county agencies and sex offender registries. Anyone whose name has a felony conviction recorded in this database is automatically prevented from communicating with TRUEBeginnings’ members. "
Sure, you won't meet too many people, but you can 'know for sure' they're clean. But REALLY, CAN YOU? And this is only half a joke.
But hey, that's not all. This site is so obsessed with safety and honesty, that things could prove dramatic in the number of people that actually CAN subscribe:)
It came to my attention that a few smaller dating sites such as dating.com have formed an alliance against the big players. Their purpose? Creating a shared online database of singles throughout all their partner sites. It's called Relationship Exchange and you can find more consumer info here and more business info here.
Things get so sad when marketers try to take advantage of men's weaknesses. Let's take for example the Axe deodorant by Unilever. In my country they're currently running a so-called teaser campaign under the slogan "What drives women crazy". They say their deodorant does. They call it the Axe effect.
OK, after Barry Diller's IAC bought Match.com, it was time for Lavalife to fall into the arms of its best suitor. Check out the full story here.
Dr. Freud. Any man's dream of a buddy. What other could you wish in this life that having a friend that knows the most about how women think?
Did I say Dr Freud? I meant Dr. Fred. He started a new dating site, that promises to use a psychoanalitical approach to the online matchmaking process. Using something that Dr Fred presents as something more than a personality test (an approach owned by tickle), called CompataQuiz™.
This dating site's 'Getting Started' manual reads: "We are dedicated to helping you find a friend, perhaps a life partner with whom the potential for bonding really exists. When we use the word 'bonding' we are referring to what goes beyond attraction, chemistry or even love. We are talking about a comfort level between two people where their nervous systems feel at home. " So THAT's what dating was all about? Two nervous systems feeling at home with one another? Ok...
Advanced matchmarking services with prices reaching thousands of dollars react on online dating in an article by an Associated Press reporter.
Here'a a quote:
" Men now make up 60 percent of visitors to online personals sites, where users can troll anonymously with little commitment, financial or otherwise. But for myriad reasons, they remain a much tougher sell for higher-end matchmaking services, which usually subject participants to extensive face-to-face interviews that require personal information upfront, such as home phone numbers, place of work and a Social Security number. These interviews also tend to weed out those inclined to fib about anything from their weight to whether they have a spouse at home. (About 10 percent of Internet personal users are not single, according to a recent Nielsen/NetRatings study.) "

In an interview this week, Cindy Chupack, the executive producer of "Sex and the City" talked about the free choice in women's dating game. According to her, women should stop waiting for Mr Right and start dating lots of MR Maybe's.
"It doesn't have to be sleeping with a lot of people, but trying just to date instead of trying to find your soulmate.", said the TV producer.
Now that's a positive attitude. Women seem to believe in soul-matching a lot more than men do, and this is one of the many things that lead to misunderstandings.
Personally, I'm happy to see another famous woman thinking like a man. We're always dating Mrs Maybe.Who doesn't should start as soon as possible
Some good tips you should take into consideration can be found here
The first thing that should be on your mind when writing a message to someone you meet on an online dating site is improving your communication skills. That may mean trying your hand (at writing, this time!) and also knowing some little secrets that can improve your communication.
First, try to be original and creative. Avoid cliches. Think in advance of original sweet phrases and write them down, so you don't forget them by the time you receive your first email response.
Second, ask questions. Not too many at once, but never send an email without asking a question. And for the beauty of the game, try avoiding closed questions(that can be answered by yes/no.) Sometimes, put yourself in her place, give your own answer to the questions you ask her, and send it along. You'll be surprised of the effects.
Third, have structure (great title/beginning, colourful body, and great ending.)
Try it. And get back to me strutting your results.
A press release from IAC (Interactive Corp) that owns Match.com among other sites shows that Match.com is the world's biggest dating site, according to the first global ranking of the Personals category by the industry-leading independent measurement firm comScore Media Metrix.
According to this release, match.com's numbers beat the competition by 3 to one.
