How CompactAppliance.com increased revenue through proactive marketing
With its web site analysis and e-marketing application, CompactAppliance.com has eliminated unproductive marketing campaigns that had absorbed up to 10% of its marketing budget. The system more than paid for itself within nine months, the retailer says.

Domain names reach a record 63 million, VeriSign reports
The latest VeriSign Domain Report says there are 63 million registered web-site domain names, one for every 100 people in the world and the highest ever. 72% of them lead to actual web sites and do not exist just for investment purposes.

REI to get a new president
Dennis Madsen will retire next March as CEO of REI, which operates stores as well as REI.com and REI-Outlet.com. COO Sally Jewell, an REI employee since 2000, will succeed him.

GXS to cut work force by 20%
With a renewed focus on retail and other industries, Global eXchange Services will cut its work force by about 300 positions by the end of this year and take a charge of up to $32 million as it consolidates to lower its costs, the company said today.
