Once again, not dead. To busy by far. All of my writing time is taken up by the novel me and wife have been writing. We're up to page 50 of a frontier Nebraska gay romance. It's been interesting. |

half watching Banzai and thought I'd share
Wrote this awhile ago but never posted it. First time one of my Buckaroo Banzai double drabbles that has sex in it. I might have to choose a fic to work on in between working on the original novel with the wife. *shrug* ( HatCollapse ) Current Mood: nauseated |

ok, question
I'm not sure how many people still check my LJ as I have all but dropped off the face but I want to get a consensus on this. I have noted two common styles, or modus operandi if you will, in romance novels and long ship fan fics. This is either a) there may be flirting, longing, masturbation and even sex between the main characters and other people but sex does not occur for the primary couple together until the end of the book or b) sex starts reasonably early, maybe in the first 100 pages or five to six chapters, and grows in emotional intensity and meaning making the sex toward the end of the book better and deeper because it's done with love. For all those who read romance novels or long ship fan fic, do you prefer scenario A or B? I'm a B person myself. The whole pay-off sex at the end thing that happens in most het romance and some gay ones written for women is just annoying and pretty unrealistic. The wife and I are working on an original M/M historical erotic romance novel so we've been reading published M/M romances to get an idea of what's already out there. I've got one I might not bother finishing that follows a) but we have another one where the sex starts on page 16 and barely lets up for the next 355 pages. It's a little lame but hot. So, what do other think? |

zombie writing
Not the undead. Really this is not zombie Tarn. Just been busy trying to find a real job and not starve in Chi-town. The wife and I have been writing a western gay historical romance novel. All my other writing has been back burnered. *sigh* Such is life. |

Acts of Courage
So here's my first Red Dwarf fic. Also posting on the reddwarfslash community. Title: Acts of Courage Author: Tarnneth Fandom: Red Dwarf Pairing: Rimmer/Lister Category: First-Time, a little angst, sorta AU Rating: NC-17 Warnings: um... Rimmer has sex? Spoilers: only if you haven't seen up to the end of Series 6 Summary: Rimmer has just done something brave and completely out of character. Now it's Lister's turn to be brave and take a chance on the smeghead. Feedback: please? Disclaimer: Don't own, don't sue, not making any money. Notes: This is my third attempt at this fandom and pairing. I only hope I'm doing it justice. I suppose technically this is AU in that it represents a divergent timeline where Rimmer and Lister are attracted to each other and act on it. Given that definition though, all slash is AU so using that tag seems useless somehow. Anyway, with Red Dwarf the statement of AU is even more meaningless. Since the series confirms, nay requires, the existence of multiple concurrent dimensions and timelines, it's hard to say which one is the primary one. So here's my version then. Forgot to mention my helpful betas from reddwarfslash community queen_fiend, kms726 and madlovescience. Thanks! ( Acts of CourageCollapse ) |

er...
For some reason the idea of finally just posting one of the stories I have stuck in beta freaks me out. Why do beta's keep abandoning me? Am I too needy with them? I have no clue. Maybe I should just trust the ones who've stuck round and don't worry about the ones that didn't. They still helped with the process after all. And how come I can't stop the need to write new stuff before the older ones are complete. It's like I enjoy having piles of WIP's about me. I probably do. Sick huh? |

Pre-emptive Happy New Year To All!!
Chicago is cold and shiny and full of possibilities tonight. OK, it's happened. I've pretty much fallen for the city, much as I grumble. I look forward to Nutkin getting off work and us going to check out the local bars and such. Will be fun. Yay! |

...
The semester is pretty done. I have to mostly wait for fall out and grades. The scary part. Now begins the tackling of the WIPs. I now have four stories in beta. They are, in order of age... Lazaretto- The first story in a planned three or four story follow-up to my POTC Sparrington epic Things Nautical. This one is called Thing Piratical. It's been in beta for nigh onto three years. Jeeves and the Lovesick Master- A Jeeves and Wooster story that's been in beta for about two years. Nutkin has been bugging me to get it finished and start on a follow up for a while. Bumps in the Night- A random Van Helsing story that I started at the end of my last fall semester. I have this thing about getting bit by new fandoms while I'm fighting with finals. With this I will very likely just call the minimal betas it got enough, post it and be done. It might even be a one-off in the fandom. Rare for me. Acts of Courage- Red Dwarf piece, Lister/Rimmer of course. Most recent fandom to distract me from finals. In beta right now. Already have ideas and a couple pages of a follow up. Winter break should be interesting. I have to finish at least two of these, the last two will be the easiest. |

working on a paper and freaking out
Last paper of the semester for ethics class about orphan works. As a weird aside, how many spaces do you put between sentences? I always put two. I've read that's it's an archaic leftover from typewriters. Well I learned to type on one of those so what do you expect? I've had to try to curb this when writing in some formats, Chicago and MLA, but luckily this paper is APA so 2 spaces is fine so long as you are consistent. Which makes me happy. Normally I prefer Chicago style but not on this issue. Am I alone and crazy? Nutkin thinks I am. |

Random fic
Or semi random, I realized that I don't think I've posted my LOTR stuff here ever so... Title: Forget and Forgive Author: Tarnneth Archive: Sure and if you want it, just ask first. Pairing: Gandalf/Boromir, no you saw right Gandalf/Boromir Category: PWP, First-Time Rating: NC-17 Warnings: Hot old man. Summary: Gandalf does something stupid, can Boromir forgive him? Feedback: Oh please do. Disclaimer: Not mine. If they were mine I’d never leave the house. ( Forget and ForgiveCollapse ) |

and then there was one
Only one big paper left and this semester is in the can. I'm avoiding it a bit tonight while I should be working on it but I've been feeling like such crap of late that my brain might explode if I try to read and write about orphan works right now. But I really need to work on it. I really really do. *sigh* |

Steampunk!!
I'm doing a class project on YA steampunk and you know what, I just love this genre!! It just kicks all kind of ass. I wonder if I wrote homoerotic steampunk how it would sell. I mean the Victorian and Edwardian eras were pretty queer under the surface so you could really do a lot with it. Hmmm.... |

Grendel doesn't live here anymore
I forgot to mention this before. We are catless. Grendel now lives with Nutkin's godmother. It's a good arrangement for him, he has other kitties to snuggle with. It's good for Nutkin, no cat to make allergies crazy. But it's not so good for me. I miss my kitty. It may be a long time before we can have a dog so it's no furry pets for me. I love Hatch, but the turtle-man is just not a snuggly, huggable pet. I miss that. And it's sorta pathetic to sit at the computer with a big Eeyore stuffie on my lap as a surrogate cat. The Eeyore is fun to hug though. He squirms less than Gren did. |
