Tempus Fugit
Tempus Fugit is my personal blog. I pretty much write whatever I want here, so I'm not going to limit myself by giving this blog a specific category, but the "Tempus Fugit" name does imply a general theme. "Tempus Fugit" is Latin for "Time Flies." So that's it. That's my theme. Look at your watch. Go on... I'll wait. See the moving numbers? If no, then you have an analog watch. In that case, look at the second hand. It's moving. In fact, look at the minute hand; that's moving too! And if you look at the hour hand, you'll just go crazy, so don't do it. So as you can see, time is flowing. I'd really like it to stay that way, so I'd really appreciate it if you made sure the batteries in all your watches and clocks stay fresh. I'm sure something bad would happen if they all stopped. But within that general "things happen, clocks tick" theme, I have any number of categories. It may be something in my personal life, something I saw in the news, commentary on something I saw on the news, humor, religion, technology, etc. Whatever I feel like, it's my website! So leave a comment if something tickles you the right or wrong way. Go check out the rules if you are unsure as to how to behave when leaving comments.
Me
Hi. My name is Mark Jaquith. I was born on November 26th, 1982, so that makes me 21 years old. Right now I'm a student at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. I was born in Massachusetts, but my family moved to Florida when I was three or so. We lived in Venice, FL, until 1990, when we bought a bigger house and moved to Nokomis, where my family still lives. Speaking of my family, there is a lot of them, so I might as well start listing them. My mom is a nurse anesthetist, who is a full time mom at the moment. My dad is an orthopedic surgeon: joint replacements mostly. I have two older sisters who came into my parents' custody when I was six or so. They are both married, one with two kids, the other with four. As for my younger siblings, David is 19 and goes to Ave Maria College in some small hard-to-spell Michigan town. Stephen is 18 and he is a junior/senior in high school... or about to be a freshman in college. It's all hard to figure. We were all homeschooled, and took classes at a local community college at some point, so it is difficult to classify. Anyway, John Paul is 12, Mary is 10, and Thomas is 6.
So... back to me. I'm tall, thin/athletic, attractive, and modest. Or... just tall and thin/athletic as it turns out. Short brown hair, blue/green eyes... blah blah blah. Go look at the pictures if you really care that much. If you want to actually hear about me... read on. Okay, so I'm a dork. Not a big dork... and not a dork that is readily identifiable.... but a dork on the inside, nonetheless. I'm good with computers and electronics and such. I'm the "official" tech support hotline for about a dozen friends/relatives. And I'm okay with that. Other things I enjoy doing are mountain biking, snowboarding and paintballing. If I'm inside, I'm playing Xbox or working on this website. I like a variety of music... but my mom just lumps it into a category she calls "alternative." In reality, it ranges from Adema to Zebrahead, from Nonpoint to Radiohead, and from Deftones to Mushroomhead. Actually, I don't much care for Mushroomhead... I just needed a third "head" band.
I was raised Catholic. There was a while where my parents weren't quite on the same Christianity page and I spent half my Sundays at two very different churches. In the end, we ended up going to the one with the shorter service, and I'm very happy with that choice. My political views are hard to classify. I'm conservative... but I have a bit of a libertarian streak in me. Basically, I think that human rights should be protected, but beyond that, the government should have little power to take away any freedoms. Marijuana should be legal, and abortion shouldn't. The capital punishment system in this country is seriously flawed (look at the statistics for blacks who killed a white person as compared to whites who killed a black person), but I think a government has the authority to claim someone's life if their crimes against humanity are sufficiently grievous . I think affirmative action is racist, but police profiling isn't. The difference there is that affirmative action uses racism to accomplish a goal, while profiling uses race as a statistical factor to accomplish a goal. I think stereotypes are needed on some level for society to function, but prejudices only hold us back. I'm fairly outspoken about my political beliefs as you can see by taking a quick look through my blog archives.
My girlfriend is Sarah, or "Sar," as I call her. What she calls me, I will not tell you. It's not that I'm embarrassed... it's just... yeah I'm embarrassed. Anyhow, she's really cool, and she's my favorite. I've been dating her for 5 years. Hi Sar!
I can't think of anything else to say at the moment... maybe I'll think of something later. Go look around my site. I started blogging in February 2003 and I have all the entries archived here.
