It's after midnight, so I can post this....
Happy birthday, Chris! I love you!

Book Quiz )

I am a cool book. =) My favorite part: "You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You'd be recognized as such if you weren't always talking about talking rabbits." Somehow, that just fits me, at least it does if you replace "rabbits" with "cats" or "Harry Potter."

I am also up far too early today. Someone returned a phone call at 7:15 this morning. That ought to be illegal.

As promised...
...here are the pictures of the other side of the office, since Chris finished putting in the last two cabinets last night.

Keep in mind that this side of the room used to be filled with really ugly black wire shelving with stuff spilling out of it and a big futon that came out further than the tables. It was also covered in stuff because we had nowhere to put anything.

As you can see, things are pretty bare so far. We've been bringing stuff back into the office, but so far it's all fit in the cabinets and on the shelves under the table for the most part. You can't really see them in the pictures because they turned out too dark, but there are two shelves below the height of the table.

Several unimportant things
I wrote an entry and realized it was really boring. Thus, I've decided to start over with a list, since most of what I have to say is not worth spending a paragraph on tonight.
  • We went to another tango lesson this evening.  Chris said something about feeling like he was actually dancing after they taught us a new step.  He's just lucky that he's got me for a partner, since that particular pattern is easy for the lead and difficult for the follow.  Hee.  After the class, we went to pick up our vegetables for the first time in a few weeks (the snow set things back at the farm and they had to take a break) and then we went to Safeway to grab some rainbow sherbet for my throat.
  • I forgot to write about the Oscar nominations.  I'm pleased with the number of nominations that RotK got--although I would have been much happier if one of them had been an acting nod, of course.
  • My new desk is a cat magnet.  Hopefully they won't knock over the bamboo.
  • Tomorrow is my mom's last day of work at the job she hates.  Stupid job.  Hooray for it being over!  After she's done, we're going to tea at a friend's house who we met while we were in Holden, so that should be pleasant.
  • I think I've decided on which tango shoes I want.  Or at least I've decided that I'm having my mom order them tomorrow, so I have to be decided.  If only I could afford two pairs, then it'd be easy.
  • I seem to have successfully avoided eating the Snickers that I brought back from Safeway.  The Twix, however, did not make it farther than the car, though I've decided that I much prefer Newman's Own peanut butter cups.  Dark Chocolate ones.  Mmmm.

Our new office, part 1
I've had a number of requests to take photos of the office while we're redoing it, so here they are. You'll notice that there are no "before" pictures. Believe me, that is quite intentional. Before, our desk was particle board with grey and black laminate on it. It was big and ugly and falling apart to the point that it had to be taped together with packing tape so that it would stay standing. It was worth the $60 I paid for it at the Goodwill two and a half years ago only because it was huge and we needed a huge desk to hold all of our computer equipment. Unfortunately, we didn't really have anywhere to organize things on it, so more often than not it was a huge mess. We had mismatched chairs and mine was falling apart worse than the desk was, despite being relatively new. On the other side of the office, we had a futon that was covered in junk and laundry baskets more often than not and on either side of it we had black wire shelves that served as the only storage in the room.

So far, we're done with the desk side of the room and we're beginning to figure out what goes on the shelves. We also have the tables put together for the other side of the room. What we have left to do is staining and assembling the wall of shelves for the back wall of the room that will go behind the craft tables.

I wish the pictures were better but this is the best I can do without waiting for film to develop.

Pictures of the desk )

I have to say my favorite part about the room so far are the plants. I've begun stealing them from other parts of the house. I have English ivy way up in the top corner above my montior. That will probably end up trailing across the top of the window as well as down the posts and across the top of the shelves. I stole some lucky bamboo from the living room and dining room and put them by my monitor and an orchid from the kitchen to put on a shelf above the lefthand side of my desk area. We also had a red prayer plant above the TV and a hoya above Chris' desk. I think we need a couple more plants for the top of the shelf before we're done, though.

Taking a quick break....
Well, last night we went to IKEA to double-check prices on the furniture we were looking at for the office so that we could think about it fully-informed. We, of course, ended up walking out of there having bought it all. It will hopefully all be delivered tomorrow, so we've been cleaning the office all day, trying to get everything (and I mean everything) out so that we can put in the new furniture tomorrow. That's a big job, considering the office has been home to everything that didn't fit anywhere else in our home up until now. Unfortunately, we're putting in a great deal of shelving that needs to be stained before it can be assembled, so this will be a multi-day task even after the stuff is delivered tomorrow. Also, since we're replacing the desk, I will be computer-less for the greater part of tomorrow. I guess that's not too horrible since like today, I'll be too busy to be online anyway. I thought I'd be able to get on for the evening tonight, but I'm just now taking a break after shopping and then working all day.

Anyway, if you're wondering where I've disappeared to, I'm lost in the land of assembly-required furniture.

RotK!!!!!!!!!!
I finally got to see RotK tonight! I don't even have words to describe how incredibly good it was. It's definitely my favorite of the three movies.

We saw the movie at the Cinerama, which is an amazing place to see movies. When I was picking up my tickets at will call, I ran into my best friend from high school and her boyfriend (the same guy I ran into when I took the LSAT). She looks great. We barely had time to talk, so I'll have to call and/or email her.

Anyway, we got in the theater and found seats in the front row of the balcony. The Harry Potter trailer was the first one they played and the whole audience cheered and applauded at the beginning, the end, and various other points of the trailer. =) It's good to be in an applause-happy audience like that, although there were some lines I missed because people were busy cheeringSpoilers! ).

Okay, so not the most intellectual response ever. I think I need to see it again before that happens. =)

Jabberwocky
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
