An al Qaeda group said today it killed American hostage Paul M. Johnson Jr., posting three photos on the Internet showing his body and severed head.

President Bush yesterday said Saddam Hussein had ties to al Qaeda before and after the September 11 attacks, in his first response to an investigative panel's portrayal of the relationship as not a "collaborative" one.

Insurgents yesterday staged one of their deadliest attacks this year, killing 35 Iraqi job seekers and wounding 138 when an SUV packed with artillery shells exploded outside a crowded military recruiting office.

Myron Dukes took his two children and another child to check out the fountains and pools at the park across the street because their hotel pool was closed and they wanted a break from the Texas heat. Within minutes, all four drowned in a swirling, decorative pool where "no swimming" signs were posted.
